We just got back from the Kalahari a few hours ago. We heard about the Kalahari from friends who visit yearly only for the day. We NEVER expected the resort to be so beautiful, friendly, and spotless. We read a review on this site with not so good reviews that concerned us, but, proven all wrong. Yes it's very loud there - there's thousands of gallons of water flowing, it's going to be loud. There were plenty of lifeguards around, and yes, they do their job. We heard many of them blowing their whistles. Try the surfing and body surfing, it's awesome. There are many private huts to rent inside and out and most of them were not being used. It is recommended that you book them a day early to ensure you get one. Just as anything else, there's only so many, and not one for everyone. If you're slow to the punch, there may not be one available. The ones outside are really nice. They're in a private section by the bar that only renters are allowed in. The huts have nicer lounge chairs than the ones poolside, and each hut has a table and it's own TV. A few had their own refrigerator and microwave too. Although the water park area is loud, the hotel is very quite. The rooms are very large. We had the smallest of rooms (Hut) but it was VERY roomy. We had a peak at a Two Room Family Suite. We will probably do that next time so that we can get up in the morning and move around without disturbing the boys sleep due to the privacy door. Would also suggest a Lodge or Combination Suite. Of course those two are a little more expensive. We were on the first floor which was nice, the water park was right down the hall. It was a little chilly outside of the room, so take a very light jacket or shirt, especially to the pool, it's 85 degrees in there so you will freeze when you leave! The coffee in the room was just fine. We've had the same brand in other resorts. There are several choices there for food, yes, it's expensive, but, not over priced any more than any other resort. We, as well as others, were wise in our packing. The rooms have refrigerators and microwaves, so we took our own food/drinks, filled the frig, ate breakfast and lunch in our room. If you choose to rent a locker, it's $10, and you get $5 back when you turn in the key. If you stay at the hotel, there is no need for a locker. Go back to the room for drinks/snacks or take them into the water park with you. Yes, you're allowed to take in your own goodies. The ice cream in the lobby is the best we ever had - we had it every night. Try the Fruit Loops one (blue) it's just like the cereal. Our boys (9 and 5) never got bored, just worn out. The place is spotless, just as clean or cleaner than Disney World Resorts. The outdoor water park is even more surprising, you feel like you're on a beach, not in Ohio. Service was great all over the resort, such friendly staff. We were missing our TV remote when we got there. We didn't report it after 10:00 PM, within 15 minutes, it was delivered with numerous appologies with it. There is nothing bad to say about the resort. The only thing to say is WOW! and expect the unexpected. We are already planning on another trip in July. We will probably stay longer allowing two days inside and two days outside. Our boys (and us) say it's better than Disney. We can't wait to see the entire expansion that's going to be done in December which includes a wave pool. You really do feel like you are a world away. There's no reason not to stay here.
