“Breakers Express Location Great”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2006

Breakers Express is a very convenient hotel located close to The Cedar Point Park. There is no hotel transportation and at the time of review(7-2006) parking at the park is $9. We have stayed in this hotel every July for about the past 3 years. We love that it has queen size beds vs. double beds. The room has a small table with 2 chairs, a coffee maker and soap & shampoo/conditioner in a cute shell in the bathroom. The towels are thin. Given that an average stay by most people is 2 nights, this hotel has a high turnover rate of guests, so the rooms probably need updating(furniture) with the abuse that it gets. This hotel has a pool and whirlpool located outdoors staffed by a lifeguard. The pool was a little chilly but given the temperature outside with the humidity it was fine. Discount park tickets are available at the front desk. The Starlight tickets can only be purchased at the park. During the summer months Cedar Point Resorts require a deposit. So just know this prior to going. A $50. fee is charged to cancel prior to 72 hrs upon arrival. If you cancel less than 72 hrs your deposit will be forfeited. Check in time is 4pm and check out is at 11am. There is free parking on the hotel grounds. The building is accessible by hotel room key only. There is a MC Donalds really close by for breakfast. We have always utilized this option and it works really well. The hotel is 3 floors. There are pretty fast elevators to access each floor. There is a pay washer & dryer on the first floor on your way out to the pool. The only thing I noticed was that the hallways could have used a little more vacuuming and or picking up. Our room was clean and I did not notice any of the negative things I have seen in the other reviews with reguard to the room.

  • Liked — Location & internet access for free in lobby.
  • Disliked — Hallways not as clean as they should be
  • Tips/Secrets — Eat breakfast at Mc Donalds or Perkins down at the Best Western

This was a great place to stay as far as closeness to Cedar Point and the ticket package goes, but that's where it ends. When they gave us our bill under our door, it was nearly twice what I had been quote (and had in writing from them). They refused to amend the bill but assured me my credit card would be charged correctly. Well, my statement just came and sure enough, they charged me the wrong rate. I'll win the dispute because I have the confirmation letter and the stuff I got when I checked in, but we did have to talk to 4 different people at the hotel which wasted an hour of Cedar Point time.

Also, the continental breakfast was very poor.

Stayed at the Breakers Express, Sandusky. Had a great time. Room was ready on time. Clean rooms, lobby, and laundry room. Rugs could use a cleaning. Very helpful staff. Didn't have to wait on any of our requests. Ironing board, and room replacement keys. Pool and pool area clean, very attentive lifeguard on duty. Have two boys 9 and 11. Great package deal for cedar point, and soak city. Overall had a great time.

I can't believe I have read all the negative reviews. This place is a great FAMILY hotel. I stress, FAMILY Hotel because if you hate kids, don't go. Even though there are alot of children running around, the hotel was very clean, fresh and relatively quiet. My family and I felt very safe and was well rested each night. All the doors are secured and you have to have a pass key to get in. I thought this was a nice feature. The rooms were very clean and I would describe them as an average room comparable with most of your chain hotels. The value lies in the fact that you get tickets to the theme parks as well as free parking at the parks and beach. Do not confuse this hotel with the one on the beach. It is not the same. The pool was very nice although it is only 3.5 ft deep. If you have little ones this is a good thing. There is a large hot tub and they only allow adults for the last hour before closing. (That was nice although I think kids under 16 should not be allowed at all. They use it as a baby pool) There is always at least one life guard who walks the perimeter of the pool, so you felt that your children were well guarded. The staff could not have been nicer. They are young people and come from all over the world so there may be some language barriers. ( So What ! Get to know other people and deal with it). This hotel is close to everything you want to do. Don't worry about the breakfast, it is only donuts, coffee and juice. If that is not for you go the McDonalds (walking distance) or one of the many close restaurants in the area. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone who wants value and a good time. If you are a "stick in the mud" and not a people person STAY ELSEWHERE, like outside of town or maybe Pittsburgh. HAVE FUN!!!

Room had dirty linen (stains, toe nails and tissue). Too late to complain, so use other bed and requested change the following morning. On return the following evening, the sheets had not been changed. Complained, was told house keeper would be sent. 90 minutes later (midnight), complained again. In short it took 3 requests to get clean linen! Do not confuse with Breakers (on-resort, pool and beach), this is Breakers Express on the causeway. If you don't want to get into the park early, stay at the quality inn next door.

This is a very nice hotel, for the most part it was clean....found a few cheerios on the floor, clean bathroom, well stocked supplies, soap, towels, toilet paper, tissue, shampoo. Has HBO or Showtime one channel. Fairly quiet, seen lots of kids....didn't hear them. Room darkening curtains, that was nice. Real close to park, had mc donalds across the street. Chicago pizza was good and close. Had to have motel key card to enter into hotel, great feature!! Free breakfast was a "cattle call" get there early!! even thought it's only donuts, coffee. juice, muffins ect...... it goes FAST. First day it was pretty well picked over at 9:15..... got there at 8:00 the second day, better selection. Hotel staff friendly. Even brought extra coffee, cream, & sugar to the room at 10 pm. Comfy beds, clean linens, soft pillows. Would stay threre again!!!!
