“Awesome, clean, family friendly and affordable hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Excellent, affordable place. If you want a day of water rides and fun this is your place. Hot breakfast included in your hotel price is excellent. Service outstanding. Doc, the night attendant, was a sweet heart. Prompt in attending guest's needs and always with a great smile. The water park is very clean and good size. My 11 and 5 year old had a blast! We had a family suite with children's bunk beds separated into a little room. Very private and was the same price as a room with 2 queen beds. Another awesome advantage is that you can stay in the water park the day of your check out for free.

We Went to Sandusky for a 3 Day Visit to Cedar Point & Made a Mistake staying Across the Street from the Maui Sands at America's Best Value Inn on the first Night. No Amenity's aside from an Out Door Pool & the Room with the Air Conditioner felt Clammy. We Checked Out First thing the Next morning because we were Not Very Happy with the Room or the Hotel. We Started Out of the Parking Lot & My Kids Immediately noticed the Water Park at the Maui Sands, So I Thought Why Not Check & See if it was within Our Budget. We went in through where the Arcade was & I Spoke Briefly with a Guest & Ask him about roughly what a Nights stay was & if The Room & Everything was Decent, Which He had Good things to say about his Families Stay. So My wife & I Proceeded to head to the Front Desk to Find out What a 2 Nights Stay would be for 2 Adults & 2 Kids & Met up with a Gentleman Named Doc, who Greeted us & was Very helpful & Led us to the Front Desk. The Woman at the Front Desk Offered a Room with a King sized bed with a Separate Room with 2 sets of Bunk Beds & separate TV for the Kids. They also included the Water Park,Which was a Real Treat. Hot Breakfast Bar in the Morning & Had a Lounge for the Adults if that was your thing. The cost per Night Stay was Within My Budget & the Biggest Surprise was That We Were Able to Check in Right Away Considering We were Asking about a Room at 10:30 am in the Morning. Most Hotels Now a Days seam to have a 3:00 pm Check in. We Were Completely Satisfied with Our Stay & Would definitley Stay there Again The Next time We Go to Cedar Point.

Excellent stay. Very affordable plus a great breakfast in the morning. Very friendly staff. My thanks again to a guy named "Doc" who made my kids very happy at bedtime. Already thinking about doing it again next summer but then again with the indoor waterpark we can go during the winter too!

Staying at the Maui Sands Resort made our 3 day getaway an absolute success! We are used to staying at Marriots and nicer hotels but I have to say our stay here is top of our list. The room was extremely clean and seemed everything was brand new. My two children were thrilled about the bunk beds and their private nook. Food was great and I cannot say enough about the service...Doc was the night shift assistant was actually walking around to help- he was gracious and friendly, life guards in the water park were so friendly and put the extra effort to entertain the kids so much that they could not wait to go back the next day! Highly recommend!

We were delighted with our overall experience at Maui Sands. Our room was very attractive, comfortable and clean, and the extra room with bunk beds was welcomed by both the kids and adults. The only thing strangely missing from the room was enough space, not to mention a lack of any good place, to place to hang wet swimsuits and towels - which is important for a waterpark hotel. The desk staff and managers were very friendly and helpful. The kids loved being greeted with leis and played with them and wore them all weekend. The service in the restaurant for dinner was absolutely terrible (the staff was more interested in talking to each other than working or following through - we didn't get things we asked for, it was very untimely service, and I had to go in search of a napkin) although the food was good when we finally got it, and the morning buffet without needing to depend on wait staff was excellent. It is very new so hopefully these things will be addressed over time.

Room Tip: Our room slept six. We loved this family suite with the separate bunk bed room for the kids.

We were in town for two days of Cedar Point fun. Myself, my wife and three boys stayed in a king bed family suite (room 4114), for three nights. We loved the room. It had plenty of space and it was nice that the boys had their space and my wife and I had ours(thanks to the pocket doors separating our room from the rest of the suite). The room was updated nicely, was clean and the beds were fine. The breakfast in the mornings was fine and had a nice selection of eggs, potatoes, sausage, pancakes, biscuits & gravy, cereals, muffins, fruit and yogurt. The coffee was OK (not Starbucks or Dunkin but serviceable).
The waterpark was great and we all had a blast. There were plenty of lifeguards on staff, plenty of towels and plenty to do. I needed a crowbar to separate my boys from the park. It was clean as well.
Check in and out was fine and the staff was friendly at all times. A nice touch was one evening at the grill, there was no fresh coffee available(I asked if it was fresh and the lady warned me that it was not). She said she'd make me a fresh pot and that was fine for we were going to the arcade. When we came back, she was ready and gave me two piping hot cups with all the trimmings. I appreciated the upfront honesty and great follow-up service.
If I had any complaints, they would be: the outside of the hotel looks a little odd. It seems to be that two hotels were combined as one, so it gives an odd flow to its look. I also did not like how anyone could gain access to the hotel from the area where the arcade was located. There were no locks or security on the doors. So, anyone could easily gain access. Need some attention to the hotel security. And lastly, which was no fault of the hotel but could have been controlled, was the fact that the hotel was hosting several girls softball teams for the weekend. The girls ran around in the evenings like wild animals and some were quite rude. My wife peeked out in the hall one night and one of the girls running by stopped, turned around, looked my wife in the eye and gave her a smarmy "Really?". Yeah really, you're running around wild at almost midnight. Parents and chaperones, please keep a handle on your kids.
All in all, it was a great stay at Maui Sands and I would stay there again.

Room Tip: queen suites seem to be in the older section of the hotel whereas kings suite are in the newer secti...

We checked-in very late and totally exhausted from an action-packed day at the AAU Junior Olympics in Detroit...and celebrating our son's win all afternoon/night at Cedar Point Amusement Park!! What a wonderful surprise we found at the Maui Sands Resort! The front desk staff, the room attendants, the waterpark employees....were all so very pleasant, helpful, and professional! The suite was spic and span clean....and so spacious and enjoyable...loved the huge bathroom and extra sink on the exterior of the bathroom! The waterpark was great fun....clean and well run! Breakfast was great, too! Thanks so much, Mr. Casey Smith!!!!!

Room Tip: ask for the "new" section of the resort
