“Location great, the rest, very average”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 27, 2011

Traveled with 6 years to 76 years, so being close was great. We took advantage of their 2 day, early admission pass. Early admission means about 6 rides are open plus one kiddie area. NOT Dragster to our disappointment, but yes on Raptor, Millineum and Mavrick. Windseeker is mild ride and lines go fast so wait on that one. If you know Cedar, you understand this. Anyway, spent extra money, about $350/night plus tickets for a Q/Q pool side suite. It is indeed first floor and by the pool, so that was convenient, but patio was covered in bird doo doo with bombs dropping regularly, ick. Furnishings very average, beds comfortable but not plush and old decor, worn out linoleum in bathrooms, old cheap bedspreads and just an average feel. Perkins on site in morning is massively crowded by 7:45 so get there at 7:30 if you want to eat before you enter the park at 9:00. Coffee is starbucks at $4.00 per glass, for a cup of coffee, no specialty coffees. TGIF on site also always crowded AND SLOOOOOOW. So why stay here? I think I won't again, and if you ever read any of my reviews, I love a great hotel. I will try the Sandcastle suites because my guess is same room, almost same location, same pool, and you really don't come to Cedar Point to walk on the beach. Much cheaper. Hotel Breakers needs a makover. If you want a decent meal, we found the Sport's Bar by the Blue Streak a nice meal with soup and salad options and a great fresh perch sandwich, plus air conditioning and sit down tables for a nice break. The light show in frontier land at night is wonderful, be sure to walk through, and nothing like a good family old fashion photo for some great laughs and memories. Love Cedar Point, not the Breakers.

I've looked at other people's reviews and appears that some rooms at Breakers are renovated and ok, but some, like the one we stayed in was not. The room was awful, nasty and smelly. Ceiling tiles were bowing from being wet and were covered in mold. Walls moldy, window screens filthy and covered on mold, the room just smelled like mold from the moment you walk in. Even the A/C unit was covered in dust and mold. The worst problem is that when we brought in the manager and showed her the mold, she just said, "oh well, what are you going to do?!"

This hotel was a great choice for me and my family. I really enjoyed the ease of Ceder Point and Soak City being a 30 second walk from the hotel. Our room was clean a comfortable. The view from the balcony was very nice because we could see beautiful lake Erie. The worst part of the trip was leaving. The service from the kind man who brought our bags to our room was great The door man even opened the car door for me. The room was very clean. This hotel had a great variation of eating establishments. We ate dinner at Perkins and the service from there was great too. We sat by the pool and ate ice cream at the ice cream parlor. We also played on the beach. A great thing was that the pool and beach both had life guards. The history of place gave a feeling of warmth and that old charm not many places have anymore. This was a great stay and looking forward to coming back.

Room Tip: Get a room with a view and balcony. Well worth the extra price.

We stayed in the "old" section of Breakers hotel. Okay, yes it was outdated BUT the room was clean and not having to drive back home that night was wonderful. Also being able to go back to the room to change clothes after we were done riding the water rides was well worth it. I know the price is a bit much but when you factor in the fact that you get the tickets cheaper through the hotel and get your parking money back the cost of the room was about $80 bucks. We will definately stay again!

As far as hotels go, this was not one of the most comfortable or modern, but it is very worth it to be a very short walk right into Cedar Point. I only gave it the very good rating because of that. We have stayed here previously, and came back for just that reason. Positives: Get into the park an hour before the general public and ride all the big rides first with minimal wait time. Multiple restaurants on site. Discounted tickets available at check in. Fast and easy check out by just dialing a number on your phone.
Negatives: Expensive! We stayed 2 nights (2 adults and 2 children), and with the room, ticket, and food, I think we easily spend close to $1000. The hotel is older so the rooms aren't as updated, but they are clean. The rooms are small. We stayed in a suite and it was still pretty small but workable. I think they need to invest in new bedding and mattresses. I could feel the springs in our bed and the bedding was flimsy.
We got to the resort gate entrance of the park around 9 am when they open for hotel guests, but there was a HUGE line just to get into the park at that time because they only had one person working. The line went fairly quickly though. I think we only waited about 10-15 minutes.
Also, note that this is a very busy and sometimes noisy hotel. We were often woken up by noise in the hallways.
Service in TGI Fridays is slow. We were able to get seated right away, but everytime we ate there, it took a long time to get the food and something was usually not as we ordered it. Perkins was good for breakfast and not too expensive. We did not get a chance to try out the Japanese Steak House but it looked good, but again , expensive.

Stayed 1 night while meeting other families for some amusement park fun.
Hotel:
Do not consider staying on the "old" section. I stayed in the "new" section, heeding the many, many poor reviews of the "old" section. I did walk near the "old" section while inside the hotel - looks like a view from a 1970's dorm. Also, spoke to another parent while in line at the Park. She also said the rooms were VERY outdated.
"New" section offers very basic rooms. Think your Holiday Inn $89 rooms with a $299 price tag. Great location. Close access to the Park, pools and beach. No WiFI? For $299, they ought to send a hotel porter in to hold a wireless router while I check Email. Ahh, that old real estate saying rings true: location, location, location...

Restaurants:
The onsite Perkins and TGIF offer the expected fare with resort prices (i.e. Perkins offers a basic omelette for $11). TGIF offers great beach views. Famous Daves BBQ, a short walk away, offers above average BBQ fare at big time prices with small time staff. The staff seemed to be all college students. i.e. Conversation at bar: me - "How many locations does Famous Daves have?". Bartender - "I have no idea.") During a busy night, gaps in service where frequent, but hey, it's just a bunch of college kids serving $20 meals.
Park:
Lots of great rides. Water rides in the main park were great. Saw the Snoopy Ice show - very good. Park is very clean. The staff in the Park seems to be made up of many foreign students (cheap labor & good learning experience for them I guess). Several of my questions were met with quizzical looks due to language barriers. If you are thinking of the college folks who work at Disney, then you will be very disappointed.

Overall rating of 3 stars is impacted by the grossly over priced rooms. They offer a super location with some good amenities, but the pricing in the restaurants continues the money grab. Maybe that's why our 3 rooms were ready at 10 AM the morning we arrived and the Park was well below capacity throughout our stay.

$$$ for the room was more than it was worth. The view of Lake Erie and the beach was so wondcerful though. It was worth it to get up and watch the sunrise from our balcony. The view made up for the excess charge of the room. Easy 1 minute walk to rear entrance to Cedar Point. Easy access to PWC and Charter Boat Rental. Jet Express to Put-in Bay / Kelly's Island only 10 minutes away.
