The Rankin House sits atop a hill overlooking the Ohio River. The view is spectacular. The house takes the visitor back to pre-Civil War days when the Rev. John Rankin and his sons provided a stop on the Underground Railroad for escaping slaves. The docents are knowledgeable and friendly. Also, if you are in Ripley and into history, visit the John Parker House. A former slave, Parker, too, risked everything to help on the Underground Railroad.
Ripley is only about an hour and fifteen minutes from Cincinnati, Ohio, and the town is picturesque and worth the visit.
