“Great Stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

This b&b is really nice. We stayed in the bedroom with a private bathroom and the room is very large, king size bed and really nice bathroom. The bed was incredibly comfortable. The owners of the B&b are very nice and truly make you feel at home during your stay. Put in Bay has a lot of partying going on but when you stay at this b&b you feel excluded from all the craziness and it is very relaxing. Great rates for what you get! I would stay again!

Room Tip: If you don't want to share a bathroom get the honeymoon cottage or the bedroom with a private ba...

We stayed in the honeymoon "cottage". It is an old house, with a seriously outdated kitchen and bathroom, old and faded furniture, questionable plumbing, overgrown landscaping, door locks that don't want to work. The bathroom was not very clean, had patches on the walls that were not painted, and the house had a generally musty smell. it included a dispenser of generic hand soap - and not even any coffee for the coffee maker, or offer of coffee at the main house.

Owner does not take credit cards, insisted on prepayment.by check for first night, and payment for the second night before we were even done checking in. We didn't even stay the second night - even having paid for it, it wasthat bad. Given how anxious he was to be paid up front, I'm guessing we are not the only people to leave early. The "private beach" was not useful - full of rocks and mosquitoes. He sent no directions on how to get there after getting off the ferry and it was not on the gps.

Also, no breakfast is included with the cottage. This is not stated anywhere, with the exception of a scratched out section on an outdated brochure sent to me after I mailed him the deposit. It is false advertising to call yourself a B&B and leave out the breakfast. Charging $160 per night for this is ridiculous. When I commented, he agreed to breakfast on one morning, because he had a cancellation.

On the positive side, the breakfast was good, and the location is good, away from all the drunken nonsense in the center of town ( unless you are under age 30 and like public drunkenness, i wouldn't recommend being in town after 9 pm). The bed was comfortable and there were a couple of nice antique dressers in the bedroom. The owners are nice people and the main house seemed fine, but I would not recommend the honeymoon house.

Room Tip: Maybe the rooms in the house are good, but do not rent the cottage.

This is my favorite piece of paradise. My husband and I return every summer and stay in the wonderful cottage on the property. I love it so much I feel guilty telling anyone about it for fear that they will book it up! Mark and Barbie are fantastic and amazing hosts.

The cottage has a full kitchen, living room, and cute bedroom. The front porch is a joy to sit on and drink coffee. I LOVE this place!

This is THE place to stay on South Bass, Island if you want a relaxing, peaceful stay. It is located at the northern tip of the island, away from the noise of downtown. However, nothing is far away on the island, so it is very easy to get downtown quick to eat, drink, and be merry. Mark and Barb have a wonderful house and provide a great breakfast. The Vineyard has direct access to the lake and the most incredible gazeebo I have ever seen. If you want a place to stay that is stumblin distance from the bars and comfort is not important, then this is not the place. But if you want a comfortable stay away from the rush of tourists; then you will not be disappointed with The Vineyard.

  • Liked — The quiet location was the best thing about it

If you're looking for a lovely, country-like setting to stay on the island, try the Vineyard Bed & Breakfast! Mark and Barb are wonderful people who make your stay the most enjoyable experience anywhere. My husband and I stayed in the cottage which gave us maximum privacy but there are 3 accomodations in the main house, as well. It's located less than a mile from the downtown area, which is really nice when you've had enough of the night life that you'll find in great abundance there. In the mornings we sat out on the front porch and watched the llama in the corralled meadow across the country road, as well as, people taking their morning stroll or golf cart and bike rides. You can take your car (free parking!) or get a taxi for $3 per person to anywhere on the island. The Vineyard also offers a huge gazebo and a pebbled beach down by the lake, which is a short walk from the main house and cottage. Throw in the fact that Mark and Barb also provide complimentary bikes for your convenience and you couldn't ask for more! Give this place a try - you won't regret it!
