“POOR customer service”

For $300/night, you'd expect a decent hotel. 3 out of 4 light bulbs were burned out and when we called the front desk, we were told we'd have to wait because they were too busy to bring them up. The room is nothing special; the towels feel like sandpaper. Rented golf carts, used them for a bit, parked them out front and went down later to use them, but they were gone. After waiting 15-20 minutes to get the issue resolved, we find out they were rented to someone else (even though we paid for the rental til 9pm). No apologies were offered and after a terse discussion with the owner, our money was refunded. Customer service is non-existent in this hotel. Would not go back!

We paid to rent golf carts from the Inn for the entire day. We drove them around in the morning and then spent time at the hotel's pool for a few hours in the afternoon. When we went to pick them up to drive to dinner, we found out the hotel had re-rented them! You could tell by the exchange between the hotel clerk and the owner that this "double-dipping" was common practice! When my husband tried to tell the owner the situation and why he was upset, the guy cut him off and became very rude--acted like we were off-base and inconveniencing him! He ended up refunding the money for the carts and then proceeded to kick my husband out of the hotel! Since he only kicked out my husband--but not me--he was not refunding the room money, however! So, he credited us back $100 for the golf carts (our and our friends' whose was also re-rented) and then charged us $250 for a room my husband was not allowed to sleep in! We are in our mid-30's and parents of young children--NOT out-of-control, drunk twenty-somethings. He treated us as if WE were creating problems, when the only problem we created was bringing to light the fact that the guy was renting the same golf carts TWICE. We go to the Bay at least once per year with a group, and we will never, ever stay at this hotel again. It used to be fun, but it is now getting run-down--with an owner who is taking for granted the large crowds the island attracks. He is indifferent to his guests because he is confidant that there are plenty of other people that will fill his rooms.

The room we rented was on the 1st floor, queen bed with jacuquzi. The room had a musty smell, the exhaust vent in the bathroom did not work and neither did the exhaust vent above the jacuquzi. The dresser was humidity damaged and the finish was crazed.
The bottom of the entry door had a partial missing door seal inviting in almost anything small that can crawl. The jacuquzi had ants coming out of the ceramic tile which bordered the unit and was next to the bed. For $285 per night it was not what we expected. I left a written note with the front desk the evening before check out, and the day of check out the manager was not in the building at that time. I expressed my concerns and requested the manager to call, but to date no contact was made by the hotel manager. This was a get away for our 20th anniversary.

A group of us girls go to put in bay every year and every year we stay at the islander inn. We always go in July and we always have an awsome time. I would not suggest this hotel to families and especially families with children. It is definately a party hotel. One of my friends calls it spring break for adults. The first year we went to put in bay we didn't even leave the hotel. We stayed at he pool all day and night. It is a party atmoshere.
As far as the cleanliness of the place, like I said it is a party place so I am sure they do the best they can considering. I know I wouldn't want to be a housekeeper there. But as far as a visitor looking to have a great time and forget about all your worries for a weekend it is perfect!!!! We are going back this year again in july. This will be our 7th year.

The stay was great and the entertainment excellent, bar service fast and the beer service was entertaiment in itself. The beerman made us laugh you have to be there to appreciate it. We had an excellent time and look forward to another trip next year and bring more of our friends.

We stayed at this hotel in August and were utterly disgusted. Located near the island sewer plant and next to an old abandoned post office were just the start of a horrible vacation stay.

After getting over the shock of this location, we arrived in our room to fond moldy grout in the bathrooms, hair in the tub and a sticky substance all over the walls as if someone had sprayed it intentionally.

Then we go from bad to worse!!

The pool was GREEN and later that day was closed by the health department as it was to contaminated to even swim in!!

The hotel refused to refund our money and we were told we were obligated to the terms of our stay. Just off the hotel property there is a small rental place that also rents golf carts and the owner of that establishment said they are always getting complaints about this place.

He called the owner of the new hotel around the corner the Put-in-Bay Resort and explained our problem. The owner of the other hotel said we could use there pool free and they even provided pool towels for us.

We are going to return to Put-in-Bay but will never stay at the Island Inn again. The Put-in-By Resort was much nicer and very clean and much less expensive with better amenities.

Hope this helps people avoid this horrible place.

We enjoyed the Islander Inn. The location was great, within walking distance of everyplace we wanted to go. Clean, comfortable rooms. It would be just an average hotel, but the pools are great, though smaller than they look in the pictures. We will stay here again on our next visit.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Islander Inn is Put-in-Bay's first and largest Caribbean style resort. We have 115 rooms surrounding 4 swimming pools including a large heated pool, conversation pool with a waterfall, 30 person jacuzzi as well as our swim-up-bar pool. The Islander Inn also features the island's original swim-up bar, The Dizzy Lizard. The Dizzy has 9 seats in the water and and seats on land. This is the bar that changed how afternoons were spent on Put in Bay. At the back of our courtyard sits Crash Landings, a bar with an airplane crashed into the top of it. Both of these are open from mid May through mid September, weather permitting. Located between the Islander Inn and our sister hotel, the Grand Islander, sits Put-in-Bay's #1 afternoon hotspot Splash! Splash is the World's Largest Swim-up Bar. We have 97 bar seats in the water and 120 chaise lounge chairs outside of the pool for sunbathing. With live entertainment on the weekends and plenty of other fun during the week, Splash is definitely the place to cool off and have a cold drink with your best friends. Overlooking Splash is The Flaming Skull. The Skull is a full scale pirate ship that sits next to Splash. Guests can walk up on the deck and watch out over the pool while having a drink at the 80 seat bar. Get your picture taken with the captain so your friends will believe you when you say you were on a pirate ship on Put-in-Bay. We are located right in the heart of downtown Put-in-Bay and are within walking distance to most of the major attractions. Should you want to explore the island a little more, we do have golf carts available for rent at our Front Desk with some of the lowest rates on the island. You can rent a cart for a couple hours or go all day if you want. ... more   less
