After buying a Groupon (which was quite a savings) we decided to take the trip to African Safari. What a joke- like other bad reviews, the place was dirty, disgusting and the animals appeared emaciated, underfed and not taken care of. We witnessed a car hitting deer mutliple times to get it off the pathway. The staff stood by and watched this happening, not offering the animal any help. The "free range" animals consist of 85%+ of deer and a few Bison- there are a few llamas and alpacas, but overall nothing "Safari" like at all. The giraffe and zebras, by far the highlight of the "safari" were at the very end, caged and hard to get good pictures of without seeing them behind a dirty cage.
If you decide not to listen to the reviews, at least take in your own animal food. They frown upon it, but $6-$8 for a $2 bag of carrots is absurd, especially when you pay so much to get in. From the way it looks, this is the only "food" these animals get. The walk through mini zoo was also a joke. Everything was off exhibit or dirty when we were there- besides a few animals. The free animal ride we were supposed to get for our children was also closed down and they told us would not be opening back up. I am thankful that we were able to get the tickets through Groupon, but upset we wasted the time to visit. We will not be back- ever. Save your money and go to the Wilds by Columbus...or visit the Safari ride at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Much better!
