“could be great...but lacking promised amenities”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 28, 2013

My in-laws are members of an RV camping club of some sort so they paid an upfront fee to get to stay at places around the country. We came here to camp and the amenities are above what I was used to camping as a child. That being said, you cannot be anything but disappointed when promised amenities are not delivered. This for me was the downside to the resort. My in-laws were happy as they have stayed at worse places in their short RV camping history.

We stayed overnight in the RV on site and the tent site.

Check-in was easy. Just give your information and get your parking hanging cards. Get your wrist bands for the day. We had a tent site as well as the RV site. We had been told that the tent site would be next to the RV site. This is not the case. It is a short walk. We did not mind. You can only have 1 tent on the RV site, we had two. This is a health department law, they say. The RV sites were nice and provided the function we needed. electric, water, sewage hookups. the tent site is in the middle by the bathrooms without assigned spaces.
The bathrooms are better than most campgrounds. Adequate for sure.
The main recreation center by the pool is very nice. There is billiards (extra fee) and there are video games (coins). The pool outdoors is nice but they have brown algae. The indoor pool is nice as well and heated. The indoor and outdoor hot tubs are very nice. The outdoor again has brown algae.
The wifi promised was impossible to get onto. I could never logon due to a "too many clients" message all 5 days we were there even at 3 and 7am. This is a promised amenity that functionally does not exist.
The mini-golf initially said available now says under construction on the web site. It is dead, there is no construction going on.
The play areas for the kids are nice but obviously not tended to since there are deep pools of water at the bottom of the tire swings.
I never saw where the racketball was and the kids club was never offered or noticed.
The life guards did a decent job except for one who spent the whole time we were there talking to the kid in the little bar side restaurant, even when kids were swimming. This is unacceptable.
The paddle boats and some of the other "amenities" cost extra, just a heads up.
Day trips to east harbor state park, port clinton, and cedar point are easy.

Overall we would likely stay here again since the lack of things like wifi did not really affect our trip as it was good to not be on wifi all day. I am not sure what the regular rates are. I really think that if some changes are made this place could be wonderful. Add more wifi logins, fix the mini golf, get rid of the brown algae, and get your tall lifeguard to do his job and things would be great.

I was looking for a last minute getaway to Put-In-Bay and the Port Clinton area and had seen Erie Islands information in the past but never stayed. All the information I had seen seemed to show it as a resort near the lake (Erie Islands) with camping, cabins, & a hotel on site. When I made my reservations they told me it would be on the Portage river with our room overlooking the marina. It seemed in line with pricing of other places in and around Port Clinton so decided to book it. When we arrived the RV section looked nice with well kept areas. That is pretty much where the maintenance seemed to end. At the hotel we were greeted by two dead planters and a 4' long healthy weed. The grounds were in serious need of some TLC. We were greeted by a very nice desk clerk that quickly explained the rules of the facility and where the pool and game room was located. I realize the need for rules, but that seemed to be the biggest concern that somehow we would break something or violate a rule. There was a bar and spa but I never did see either one open. The restaurant was open from 5-9 p.m. but we did not eat there as it did not fit into our schedule. A breakfast buffet or some sort of continental breakfast with juice and coffee in the morning could go a long way in making you feel more welcome and comfortable. The rooms were clean and fairly comfortable with a fridge, microwave, & coffee maker. The bathroom was to say the least in need of updating. The tile was new but the sink looked beaten up and the hot & cold water faucets were reversed. The bath and shower were not in great shape. The faucet to the tub was loose and almost coming out of the wall and the shower head would not adjust accept for a long stream of water. I am not sure if it was because of the water, but the soap they provided would not lather. (Great to get home and get a long shower!!) There were only soft drink vending machines on premise, if you wanted chips or something as a snack you had to walk or get into your car and go to the Dry Dock Store. In a driving rain I really did not feel like doing that.
The saddest part of the facility was the fact it has so much potential to be something so much more. It has the bones to be a great family, camping, boating, fishing, or even a golf getaway if someone would make the investment in it.
For my money though I can't say I would stay there again. There are too many other places that are more convenient and can make a stay so much more enjoyable.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with someone that is handicap the facility is really not set up for that. There...

We are Thousand Trails RV members and this is a member park. We also have been full timing since 2002. The RV sites are very spacious. The park is well maintained and well staffed. A park ranger is at the main gate 24 hours a day for everyone's safety. They have a large club house with a pool table, video arcade games, a small Resturant with very reasonable prices and open most every day. I understand that there is a main Resturant at the resorts INN that is very good and also reasonably priced. We will try it before we leave. There are two pools and two hot tubs, one each outside and one each in doors. The wifi at the park is spotty. We have come to expect this at most parks and is not a big deal as we can use 4G or LTE. All in all, we like this park.

This is the second time we have been to this facilty. The potential is tremendous if some big investor took it over and spent some money. THe upkeep of the cottages and general public bathrooms, showers is very poor..Beautiful pool area inside and out but also in need of some attention. The worst aspects were the Double beds with horrible mattresses, and pillows that all need to be tossed. Also the linens and towels could all be updated.

If you've ever put your money into a pop machine and did not get your pop, you can relate to the frustration of my family at the Erie Island Resort. We arrived for a five day vacation and right off the bat we experienced nothin but disappointment. The hot water in our cottage did not work and it took hours for it to get fixed. The next day we bought wifi for our cabbin, which was a sickening extra amount added to our already outrageous bill. The signal to the Internet was inconsistent and would not last for more than a minute or two. Later on, we attempted to call the front desk for assistance, but was told that they closed at 7pm. Check in was at 4pm, which meant that if we had not luckily pulled in that three hour window, we would have been sleeping in our car for the night. Another day later our hot water went out again. We had been at Cedar Point for the entire day and had to come back to another cold shower. In view of this, we tried going to the recreation center to use their facilities, but were surprised to see that it had been closed an hour earlier than it was supposed to, noting the careless laziness of the staff. In addition, the charge for extra towels and other given amenities was outrageous. For the price of this resort, it is absolutely disposable. I guess that it is a step up from dirt, if you're the kind of person that likes trapping yourself in a financial clamshell.

As we live on Lake Erie we pride ourselves in knowing all the dining establishments and let others know our experience. But the restaurant has been open to the public for several months and we decided to try it out this past Saturday. What a great dinner with great service from Scott and the new chef! Food and dessert (made by chef) were wonderful, wine was high end without being overpriced. We are telling all our friends and neighbors to find this out of the main drag of Port Clinton and that they will not be disappointed. The menu was varied, the setting was elegant without being overdone and the prices much more reasonable than some of the similar local restaurants. We will definitely be back!

We spent the weekend at Erie Islands Resort and Marina for a family reunion. We were 30 people in 5 of their lakeside cabins.
The cabins were the perfect solution, being able to prepare traditional family meals and all come together on a central deck, where the staff was nice enough to set up picnic tables for us. We played games on the lawn, ate most meals there and watched the sunset over the water.
They also have a beautiful and well kept recreational center with a large outdoor pool, snack bar, game room, pool tables, sitting area and more. That was perfect entertainment for the whole family.
We did a couple nearby excursions to the quaint town of Lakeside and to the Safari Drive thru park as well. Next time we'd like to explore the area more, or perhaps take the ferry out to the islands.
The chef prepared a wonderful brunch for us in the hotel restaurant on Sunday before everyone departed.
Joan the manager set all up as we requested and checked in several times during the visit to make sure all was going as we had planned.
