“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

On th plus side, the rooms were clean and Iwe didn't think everything was too far away [10 miles??]
However, the waterfront view is a small marina and there are no chairs to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet. You need to go to a different facility in order to have the pool and Recreation room. The pool itself is nice but the staff doesn't seem to care about any customer service.
The continental breakfast was a joke. Several pieces of bread for toast, weak coffee is extremely small cups, and some cereal
A place to stay but so is Red Roof Inns
The attached RV Campsites looked acceptable
Initial contact with resort was difficult. Noone picked up the phone to answer.

Room Tip: Find somewhere else to vacation

Our experience was excellent. We really enjoyed the quiet, clean room. The continental breakfast could use an upgrade by adding something hot, like belgium waffles or something to go with the cold cereal. The view over the lake and the rec-center were excellent. We would recommend this resort to anyone wanting to travel to Lake Erie.

Room Tip: all rooms are equally desirable.

Ok, so my wife and I went here for a Lil weekend getaway. This place is in the middle of nowhere! Your about a half an hour away from everything "one way". The rooms are dated but are clean, staff was really nice and always friendly. We went to there time share presentation, definitly not for us. The pool was clean and for peak season and them telling us they are booked solid every weekend the place was dead. The food was not good but service was.
To sum it up in a nut shell, it's more of a koa camp ground then a resort, which is fine but they shouldn't advertise as a luxury resort "on the lake". Should be a very nice and quite campground away from the lake with nice amentities.

The development of Erie Islands Resort & Marina’s was based on the vision of the family vacations and how to meet the vacation needs of every family. We are very proud to offer accommodations from three bedroom lake houses with private docks to RV and tent camping. With 400 beautiful acres Erie Islands is a waterfront community centrally located to the areas myriad of attractions. The cleanliness of our facilities is of utmost importance to everyone at Erie Islands Resort & Marina. Your comments are very helpful in the assessment of our staff, processes and future development.

There are a ton of rules, but no one knows what they are and they are not clearly posted so you constantly made to feel awkward. The life guards spend more time making sure no one has fun rather than keeping the swimmers safe. They only seem to hire miserable women to work there. I don't think I saw a smile all weekend. The management should fired immediately! The fact that I know that the miserable woman works 80 hours per week is enough proof that she doesn't know how to treat a guest. Don't complain to me about how tired you are....I came to relax and enjoy myself. I think they have hired people that honestly do not know what it means to provide good customer service. I don't think they are trying to deliberately make people feel bad and have a terrible time, they were never trained to treat people with respect. Training everyone to say, "I'm sorry, but..." would go a long way when a guest does not know how everything works. The place has potential to be a good family spot, but the staff is so infuriatingly bad it ruins the whole experience.

We bought a Groupon or Eversave deal - 2 nights for $129....for that deal, you couldn't go too wrong! The rooms were quite a decent size for 2 of us. The room was clean. There was a mini fridge & microwave in the room. The bed was very comfy! No elevator, so if you can't do stairs, make sure you get a ground floor room. Pool (indoor & outdoor) are a short walk over to the 'Rec Center'. However, the outdoor pool closed at like 8pm & it was still very light out! :( Who wants to use an indoor pool in the summer! I saw where there is a restaurant & bar - but neither were open during our stay - they said something about the bar is open when the restaurant is open & I didn't catch the rest of the conversation as to when that was. No hair dryer or iron in the room... first-come-first-serve from the front desk & the ironing board is one of those table top deals & the table was really too small to set it on! Not many outlets to plug in cell chargers or even the iron for that matter (a pet peeve of mine!) - had to unplug other things! Front desks staff was OK - pleasant - but would never win a hospitality award! They didn't really go out of their way to give you information - they gave it to you only when you asked! And I'm talking about general info such as when the pool is open, when the bread & cereal breakfast (continental breakfast) is open - things most hotels tell you upon check in. This place is not in the center of town. It is about a 6+ minute drive to Port Clinton - not a bad drive, but not walking distance to anything at all. This place is out of town & kind of in the country -and many have commented on that in their reviews. All-in-all it was an OK place - great for the price! I never spend all that much time in the hotel room, so as long as it's clean and comfortable - I'm usually OK!

My husband and I purchased a 3 day, 2 night weekday stay at the Inn through JB Dollar Stretcher for $199. It served our purpose of a few days away for r&r without traveling too far from home ( live about 1.5 hours drive away). The front desk staff were friendly and willing to answer any questions. After reading other reviews regarding sales pitches, we were somewhat skeptical as to what we were walking into! However, not one person approached us about anything to do with sales! We appreciated that. The room was very clean but the bathroom, although it was small, lacked hooks and shelves. It was quiet and we overlooked the marina. Fishing in the ponds simply hooked seaweed, but fishing on the lake produced better results. Please don't be misled, it is not on Lake Erie, but on Portage Lake. Even though it seems out in the middle of nowhere, with the help of a GPS you can find many restaurants/attractions in Port Clinton, Marblehead, Catawba and the Lake Erie Islands. We were disappointed that the miniature golf course did not exist! The grounds were nicely cared for, and our impression was this resort may be a work in progress. It was also nice that there is a snack shop in the rec center at reasonable prices because otherwise, if you stay at the Inn, you need to find restaurants for all meals. We did not partake of the continental breakfast because it did not look very appealing: a few choices of bulk cereal, toast, bagels, orange juice and coffee. Many Canadian geese and sea gulls also call the property home, and their "deposits" are everywhere! Overall, it was a great value for what we paid, but would not pay the $239/weeknight price tag.

We enjoyed our stay at Erie Islands - Went for a weekend retreat and had a great time. I had purchased the 3 day 2 night package through JB dollar. We definitely got a great deal. The wine and cheese reception was a great way to meet, mix, and mingle with other guests. There was a vulture in the lurch (Time share sales). However, once you told her that you were not interested, she wished you well and asked you to enjoy your stay. The second evening there was a free dinner included in the package. I saw complaints about the meal before staying. Yet, we enjoyed ours. The choices were pasta or chicken. We opted for chicken. It was delicious. It was served with salad, rice, and mixed vegetables and you had a choice of a bottle of wine, soda, or beer. Ice cream was offered for desert. Once again, the time share sales associate was waiting in the lounge to provide a sales pitch. Again, she was cordial and understanding with a refusal.

The putt-putt golf course was under construction. But the temperature was 100 so we wouldn't have played anyhow. The pools were nice and well maintained. There was an outdoor pool as well as an indoor pool that provided activities. There wasa small exercise room and a raquetball room.

Teh resort offered a small store as well as a bar side pool that had a variety of bar type foods available at a reasonable price. The pool bar also offered beverages at a reasonabe price. The bartender was outstanding.

All staff members were pleasant and friendly. Security was also very friendly.

The resort is not on Lake Erie which may be misleading to some. But for us it was close enough to activities and nightlife. Yet far enough away to provide privacy.

I would encourage others to visit the resort. I would not be interested in the time share but for a night or two stay it was great.
