This is my second time staying at this lovely inn. And it IS lovely. Poland, Ohio is a charming town of tree-lined streets, little lights in every window of nearly every home, a darling farmer's market and a school in the heart of town attended by President McKinley. It is steeped in history and this incredible inn in the very heart of town should be a shining example of what this town is: beautiful, clean, warm, and inviting.
However, when the inn's owner does not live at the inn nor has much of a hand in the running of an inn, an inn typically does not shine. This is what has happened here. There has only been one other inn that I've ever gone to that did not have daily maid service and that inn is now in foreclosure. It is a horrible feeling to come back to your room after a long day and find the bed unmade and towels in the tub where you put them to be picked up and changed. I would have happily re-used the towels but it was so hot and humid and the window air conditioner was not sufficient, that the towels were soaking wet and would not dry overnight, so we placed them in the tub for a linen change.
The bed was quite hard and I love a firm mattress. It was hard.
Breakfast was the next disappointment. Folgers coffee is not what I want to have at an inn. I just don't. AND, I don't want pastries from Sam's club and Panera bread. If I wanted those things, I would stay at the Holiday Inn and go to Panera bread in the morning. Inns are noted for their home baked cookies, cakes, breads and morning specialties and I was so looking forward to being pampered for just a few days.
This inn has so much potential and it is being left to two women who are sweet in their own way but not really interested in making this their own. They run this for someone else. One gal runs around in her bare feet talking on the phone to friends about personal things that guests have no business hearing. I want to love this inn. I want to come back every year and see it shine. I want to enjoy delicious coffee and read the local news in the wonderful sun porch. I want to see the gardens and look out the windows onto the green landscape that surrounds this gorgeous old home. Please someone do something to improve this place.....
And please REMOVE items left by other guests such as used tubes of toothpaste and half-filled bottles of lotions and body creams. NO ONE WANTS TO USE THESE OR SEE THESE....it's disgusting.
