“Surprisingly quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 25, 2012

I was apprehensive when I was given a first floor room, especially because the Inn was crowded the night I stayed. Yet, I had a great night's sleep and didn't hear a thing all night. I wanted to write this review because the Inn is so quiet!

I came to the Inn as part of a group of 28 visitors to Miami University. The downstairs common room works well for socializing.

My understanding is that the Inn will be relocated this summer because this particular property is being re-purposed as a student residence hall for the 2012-2013 academic year. I was told that the new Inn will come with be modern, larger and upgraded.

Room Tip: My room was quiet, even though it was on the first floor.

The good.... Location, location, location... And it was very quiet. Nice towels, ok beds, free wifi. The not so good: small dark rooms in need of updating, or at least better lighting, more outlets. The door/locks did not leave me feeling safe and secure. The rooms were otherwise ok for an old hotel in need of love. But, the bathroom - tub was stained, the room small. Lastly, though, and most gross... The air vent/fan (in the ceiling) was disgusting! Full of dust and who knows what else. Outside of the room: the lobby was dark, non-descript. Service was average. The free breakfast was less than adequate. We ended up eating elsewhere.

I stayed at the Inn which is part of the Marcum. I had read some not so great reviews and was a little nervous but everything was fabulous. I was In a king size bed room and was not disappointed. This is a great place to stay on campus. Super quiet and class was in session.

I've stayed at Marcum Center and Miami Inn. Great location for Miami U campus and University Owned facilities. They are in a 100% location and perfect for visiting University guests and other folks.

That is where it ends. Fifteen years ago the facilities needed a 100% facelift and it's been downhill from there. Frankly, both buildings seem like stuck in time warp in mid 60's with small rooms, concrete block walls, metal doors, popcorn ceilings, poor mechanical systems and zero insulation. The complimentary continental breakfast is poorly presented, has a paltry selection, and is in a space that has not seen any capital improvements funds in 25 years.

That said, if you want a great location this is the place for you. However, if you are looking for something even fair, you staying in the wrong place.

You can't go wrong with a visit to Miami and stay on campus. The Miami Inn was very clean, the staff was very friendly, and the free breakfast was very nice. If you are visiting in Oxford, you can't go wrong at the Miami Inn. AC worked great. Note: Current renovations to the Marcum Center make the Miami Inn the only place to stay at current time. I believe parents of current students get a discount.

We checked in as part of a hockey team. Our heater in the room did not work. Room temperature was 60 degrees. After several calls to the front desk, the receptionist visited our room and told us she would call maintenance. After 90 minutes of shivering, we asked to be transferred to another room. She assured us that we could not be transferred because we had trashed the current room. We had not even used the bathroom. All we had done is wrap up in blankets to keep warm. Eventually, after requesting a manager come from another facility, we were moved to another room. The customer service was horrible and it is obvious that these are state employees not people trained to work with the public. The biggest concern was "who will clean up the used room" rather than how can we help our customers.

Shockingly good value. Basic but adequate continental breakfast included. Lovely, traditional decor, beyond friendly staff, very clean room and common areas. Convenient parking behind building. Tiny but immaculate bathroom - if you sit down before closing the door you'd better be alone or comfortable with exposure. Small point, though, because the rest is amazingly good and great value.
