“A Nice College Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2013

Stayed at the Oberlin Inn one night. Our room was nice and clean except for the bathroom. The bathroom needs a definite update. The bed was very comfortable. Ate at the 2 restaurants the staff was very attentive. Food was just okay. Overall our stay was above average.

Thank you for staying with us. We are glad that you enjoyed your room, the Garden Restaurant and Brewsters. The Inn is in the process of being updated with a projected start date later this fall or early winter. We hope that you will be able to stay with us after the renovations are completed.

Initially we requested a room with a king sized bed and were told they had none available. After we told them that we weren’t interested in a room with two doubles, they told us they had a junior suite with a king sized bed which we could have for substantially more money. We had little choice but to accept. I can’t remember the last time we stayed at a hotel that provided so few amenities for the price. There was a table in our room, which I supposed we could have eaten at, but it was without any dining chairs. The air conditioner was very noisy. The building itself was rundown in appearance, and the back steps to the second floor were filthy. Amenities such as hair conditioner and lotion were not provided. Our room was large and clean, and we did receive a complimentary newspaper each morning, but for the price, I would have expected something a little nicer.

Thank you for choosing the Oberlin Inn on your recent visit to the area. During high demand times, king rooms are in short supply. Our apologies that the king suite was lacking in amenities. We are much aware that the Inn is needing renovating. Plans are in the works for later this year. Again, we thank you for staying with us and we look forward to hosting you when you return to this area in the future.

We were there for a wedding weekend. The room was very clean and a good size. The beds were amazingly comfortable. I was trying to figure out how I take mine home to Canada with me! Best sleep I have ad in a long, long time! I would recommend for anyone to stay here.

June 7-8 overnight stay
we were very disappointed in the Oberlin.
1. charge for wifi-During our 3 weeks travelling on the road, the Oberlin was the only hotel/motel/B&B that charged for wifi access. The charge was only $1 a night but why not roll this small amount into the room rate.
2. power failure during breakfast hours of June 8th- due to the inconvenience I thought that the hotel would have graciously provided a voucher for a complimentary continental breakfast once the power had been restored. No, I was told because the power outage was not the fault of the hotel. It had been a chance to build customer loyalty.
3. on checkout, we were not asked for any comments on how we enjoyed our stay.

Agree with Spanielmama - hopefully, it will be replaced (?) or renewed with a place this town deserves. We were there on a very busy weekend, and surprisingly the single elevator and the dining room worked fine. The restaurant is reasonable, and the service good. (Room service - we had for breakfast - was surprisingly fast and good choices/value.) (There are now several downtown restaurants to go to, so that may explain the small crowds in the restaurant.) Most staff were friendly, helpful - a few exceptions at the front desk. Parking is strange - very few spots at the front (towards the Square) location, and no way to drive around from there to the main parking at the back. And that is (except for a very few spots) a long ways across a dubious concrete plaza from the back door - the main door for check-in. Room was old, but clean enough. The location right on the town/college square is ideal - let's hope for a new lodging spot here, before long.

The business at the Inn is quite seasonal, due to the rhythm of the college year. We stayed there about 55 years ago, and it hasn't changed much, except for the rust on the washer and dryer and the loosened handles on the dresser. It is getting very outdated and will be replaced in the next few years at the same location. I don't know where visitors to Oberlin will stay during construction. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The dining room had great food for the price. We especially enjoyed the breakfasts. I was surprised that it wasn't crowded. The live DJ in the bar blared music on the weekend, so there was no point in having friends there for conversation and a drink. Food was available at any time of day, which is a plus for travelers. And watch out if you are the third person trying to get on the elevator!

Room Tip: There are a few stairs between the wings on the second floor. If mobility is a problem, request a ro...

Thank you for staying with the Oberlin Inn. Yes, the Inn is in the process of finalizing a new lodging facility that will be on site at the same location of the current building. Exact timing is not known at this stage. Glad to know that your dining experience was enjoyable - great value for the price. It is our pleasure to always serve our guests and we look forward to your next visit, whether here or in a new facility.

The town of Oberlin is a unique, historic and beautiful spot, and it deserves a better hotel than the Oberlin Inn. This hotel is in need of a major renovation. The place has a tired, uncared for feeling. The rug in our room smelled. I had to go to the supply closet with the helpful woman at the front desk, in order to get towels, soap and shampoo for our room. There was no conditioner. Until she found a single small bottle in the drawer at the front desk. We wanted to stay in Oberlin for two nights, but we coudln't bear another night at the Oberlin Inn, so we left and went on our way.
