Having been rebuffed by the Beckford Arms who were far too busy for two muddy walkers (we didn't quite fit with the Range Rovers and Porches that filled the car park) we were very happy to stroll down the road to the welcoming and accommodating Riverbarn. Who are these people having top quality lunches on Thursday? Maybe like us, they had taken a day off to walk the stunning footpaths of the area. Maybe the recession just hasn't quite reached downtown Fonthill Bishop. Whatever the reason the Riverbarn was also buzzing...in a gentle, country cottage way.
Being the second nicest bit of weather so far this year we sat in the garden and didn't need a menu having seen a top quality burger pass through the restaurant we just ordered one each and enjoyed the exceptional surroundings.
No! A burger is not a burger! This Chefs special with smokey bacon and blue cheese was perfect for a couple of walkers. The owner was very chatty in spite of being busy. The rest of the food looked lovely and we will definitely manufacture a future stroll into this walkers haven. Don't think I'm suggesting this is some kind of cafe. It's a classy but unpretentious family run place that would suit any occasion.
