“Exquisite taste !”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 20, 2012

I visited Joglo Plawang boutique villa in July 2012 for our first trip to Yogyakarta. What I liked best is the decor and comfort of the room : they were spacious and exquisitely equipped. The restaurant was also very nice, with great decor and really nice food. Staff were friendly and efficient... when they understood english ! They'd really benefit from language classes... We liked the village atmosphere of the place, and really appreciated the cooler temperatures (being able to sleep under a duvet without aircon is really a plus when you live all year round in Singapore !) . I tried their massage, which was energetic. On the other hand, it became a bit tiring to drive 30 min to the city, and a bit of a problem if you want to enjoy night life. In any case, I would strongly recommend this place ,as it is ideal to relax after visits around the area.

Room Tip: Some rooms are very close to the road separating the two parts of the resort. Initially we were sett...

We stayed in this beautiful boutique villa for 3 nights(deluxe rooms) and had a very good experience. The rooms are spacious, clean and the service very good. Hotel staff are friendly. Special mention to the Restaurant across the road. The chef and the dining area staff were very friendly and the chef prepared nice vegetarian dishes for us.

the hotel is such a beauty. it is very comfortable, clean, and offers a traditional Javanese experience. staffs are very friendly too. I booked a deluxe hotel and I was given an upgrade to the junior villa. its a private villa facing the stream which left me in awe. the sound of the stream, the fresh and cool air in the morning together with sounds of insects makes this place a true gem. will definitely stay at this hotel again if I were to go back to Djogja

Room Tip: hotel provides free transportation to and fro the airport. don't miss this place!

We spent 4 nights at the Joglo Plawang. We had reviewed Trip Advisor and knew there could be some hit and miss, but overall, more miss than hit.

The good:
Beautiful property in terms of landscape, rooms, layout
Interesting use of traditional Javanese materials, felt very "fancy local"
Friendly staff
Spacious rooms (we stayed in the Royal Villa)
Very sweet village just around the corner, and the location in the heart of snake fruit cultivation land is pretty

The bad:
Staff's English is severely limited. We had a terrible time communicating what we needed.
Staff is not helpful in the concierge department - a problem when you list yourself as an international boutique. This is most likely linked to the language issues, but the hotel doesn't even have a map of Yogyakarta on site. In our travels we found numerous maps based on a number of interest areas, so maps are clearly available, just a detail this hotel is missing. If you plan to stay here, make sure you know exactly what you want to do ahead of time.
The location is not good, actually worse than not good, if you want to see Yogyakarta. We ended up being in a the hotel taxi a minimum of 40+ minutes anytime we wanted to go out. This ended up being costly, and also time consuming.
The cleaning staff is not particularly attentive to detail and we found a lot of dead insects in the corners of the room. Some bugs are okay, but when the cleaning staff would miss the bugs day in and out it was annoying. Any visitor should know that the 4:30am call to prayer for the local mosque is really loud It sounded like the loud speaker was on top of our room. This was particularly difficult because we have an infant, who didn't go back to sleep easily after being woken up at 4:30am. The final call is at 7pm, which can also jostle an infant trying to go to sleep. Overall, if this hotel had been charging budget rates we would have been pretty happy, but the prices were not commensurate with the service delivered. There was no sign of any management on staff the entire time we were there. I would recommend that the owner spend more time on the property and work to smooth out the rough edges. This place has a lot of potential, but it is currently unrealized.

Room Tip: Royal Villa is huge and very nice. The rooms on the poolside of the hotel seem more comfortable. O...

its quite way out of town, about 35 mins and would be a hassle to go out at night. the deluxe rooms and villas are on the same site as the main lobby, the restaurant is across the road but the standard rooms is quite a walk at about 350-400 metres away. Not to worry though as the Hotel's Avanza is always on the standby to ferry you to and back to your rooms. deluxe room is big and full of woodcarving which i really appreciate. The twin deluxe that was given to me has a bathroom bigger than the bed room :) the other deluxe room was of different design with small bathroom and a large bedroom. The standard rooms are grouped 4 in 1 house. It has its own living room and verandah outside and 1 big joglo in front of the standard houses. Generally rooms are clean and the bed is so comfy that one can reach dreamland as soon as one lie under the blanket. i quite enjoyed my big bath tub that can easily fit 2 person after a long day walking up and down the Borobodur..... nice

staff are always smiling and helpful. breakfast is adequate and tasty :). Overall nice traditional mix of javanese architecture in a village surrounding with great staff to support it

It was early December 2011, wet season in central Java most afternoons, but that only made the vacation "Kool" ! Joglo Plawang is the perfect escape for someone who wants peace and quiet amidst tradions of the local people. And you experience it the moment you step into the gentle surrounds filled with classic Javanese architecture and charm- that also includes the staff who are ever ready to be of help no matter how small a task. We stayed 5 nights in the Royal villa.Literally a huge tradional house complete with all the luxurious fittings you'll love- especially the bathroom! We were the only one's there in the first few days so that was perfect! Just like being in your own home-Javanese Royalty style!
It was 20 years since our last trip to Jogja, so this time around we wanted to just relax, experience a bit of tradional gamelan with the friendly kampong people, enjoy the delicious food and not do the usual tourist rounds of temples and kratons but shopping was a must! But if it's your first time, plan your schedule ahead and don't miss the Ramayana ballet at night under the stars at the Prambanan complex. Simply breathtaking!Camera's fully charged or you'll kick yourself!
We like that it's not in the heart of town about 30 minutes away, but easily accessible with the friendly hotel drivers who will also share the local stories with you.

The hotel is located half an hour from the city, not very convenient for night life, but can avoid terrible traffic in downtown when you go to Borobudur and other places of interest. The traditional deco is quite nice. Staff are extremely friendly. The standard rooms are very far from the main mansion, although they do provide 24 hours guard and servants and car transfer all the time. You still can find insects here and there but even the ants are friendly enough and normally avoid your shoes when they go out. Overall very relaxing and good value.
