“Good for the road-weary traveler, but not many friills”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2008

Our travel plans changed and we needed lodging along I70 between Indianapolis and Dayton. Selected the Fairfield Inn since it is a Marriott property.

We had trouble finding the hotel since the lights were out on the exterior of the building and the large pole sign was out. And, for some reason, the gps placed this hotel about 3 miles down the road. The hotel is right next to a gas station/truck stop and a restaurant. There are other restaurants and shopping on the othe side of the highway.

Check in was smooth, with a friendly desk attendant. The property appearance and decor is pretty basic, but clean. They've tried to keep it updated, but could use refreshing, especially compared to the newer Fairfield Inns. But, for one night it worked out ok. The breakfast bar was pretty much no-frills, as well.

This property can be good for a family since there is a small indoor pool.

This was a good value for the price paid.

  • Liked — Good value, location close to interstate exit
  • Disliked — Very average lobby and breakfast area.

Although very clean, reasonably priced, and comfy beds, this is not the hotel for someone needing a smoking room. It was like 20 degrees this morning and I was disgruntled to have to smoke outside (or be penalized $250!) as a paying customer. Because of this silly rule, I probably will not stay there again. It does not hurt to have a few smoking rooms for those of us who still smoke. May be a state law, as the Iron Skillet truck stop right next door was ALSO nonsmoking (has ANYONE ever seen a smoke-free truck stop???).

Stayed here one night of a convention. Good location--just off expressway, near restaurants--just not very scenic as noted earlier, but who cares? No business center or computer just to check emails. Breakfast was good. Bed & Bath linens were clean. We'd stay here again.

  • Liked — Clean, updated rooms
  • Disliked — No way to check emails--important when traveling

For a AAA rate of $75 for 2 Queen-size beds in a large, clean room that looks new, this was a very good value and good location for a stopover. Also included were passes to a local gym, which was near several restaurants about a mile away. The gym was dated, but seems popular with a mixed age of locals, including seniors. The hotel is next to the truck stop (!) but there were no truckers and it was reasonably quite even though our room was on that side. The air conditioner is controlled by a thermostat on the wall (like a nicer hotel) and made a quiet, even, white-noise sound.

  • Liked — Quiet, clean, large rooms with Queen size beds
  • Disliked — View of the truck stop

This is the best place I've stayed near Richmond, IN. It's clean, quiet, the staff was friendly and accommodating. The continental breakfast included access to a do-it-yourself waffle maker, which was a nice touch. The beds were comfortable. There is free internet access, and the TV has plenty of cable channels. There is no view, but that's because NONE of the hotels in the area really have one. Finally, the heating system did not rattle and buzz all the time, which is one of the more common and annoying problems in many places like this. It did its job. There is a indoor pool off the lobby--it looked nice, but I didn't try it.

The entire hotel, like all Marriott chain hotels, is now non-smoking, so you can disregard the 2005 comment about the smell of smoke.

This hotel was what I expected from a Fairfield. The location isn't scenic by any means (literally alongside I-70), but is perfectly comfortable for an overnight stop. You're very close to several restaurants and not too far to "downtown" Richmond. My room was clean and comfortable; the microwave and fridge were a nice addition.

  • Liked — Ease of access to the interestate, price, comfort
  • Disliked — View

Room was clean, however, it did smell like smoke. (We had requested and were informed that we had a non-smoking room) Was too tired to complain. Otherwise, everything was fine. Efficient check in & check out.
