“Quaint, but shabby and not especially clean”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

Hmmm. I very seldom take the time to write a negative review, because I feel everyone is entitled to having a bad day. I realize that the hotel is over a hundred years old, but it still should be clean. There was a layer of dust on the curtains and furniture in the registration area which put me off. Our room was quaint, but the mattress on the bed was one of the most uncomfortable ones I've slept on. The mattress itself is pretty new (I think) but it was put on top of an extremely old boxspring which made it feel as if the mattress was going to slip off. Neither of us had a good sleep at all. We were in room 303. We paid for our room through a discount hotel service, and I wonder whether they save that room for them. Sad that I wasn't able to give a better review. Ladies checking us in at the front desk were pleasant. Restaurant seemed very popular. (but we didn't eat there)

The roooms are very clean and roomy. There is an elevator. Our room air and heat in room 307 sits in the windwow and was noisy but the temp was comfortable. The hotel does date back to 1847. The resturant / pub has very good food. You should note that there is no parking lot. You park on the street. For us it was a block away from the front door. The price was competitive and it is close to many of the events and very beautiful hilly landscapes.

Room Tip: Try to get a close parking spot as you cannot park in the street at the front door to unoad, you wil...

This is THE best place to stay when visiting Amish county. The historic hotel is clean and the rooms I've stayed in have always been spacious and comfortable. It has lots of charm and is but a short drive to any of the local specialty shops. If you visit any of the cheeseries or chocolate shops, you'll want to get a room there that offers a mini-refrigerator as it comes in very handy. On site is a bar and restaurant which definitely should be enjoyed...they make an apple martini that is incredible. They also have a sizeable patio in back that is open in the summer and features live music. I have not yet had the opportunity to enjoy that as my trips have been in the spring, but am sure it can only add to the stay.

Room Tip: If you are traveling with children, this might not be the place for you - I think they'd be bore...

The stay and service was wonderful! We were greeted by the friendly owner who took great care of us. Our room was huge and had a neat view of the main street thru town. The restaurant/pub was a delicious end to a busy day of shopping. We will definitely return. A must stay if you are in the area. Visit Carm and the cheese house to complete your visit.

We stayed at this hotel August 24, 2012 for one night. We had two rooms to accommodate a group of four adult cyclist on a 5 day Amish Road excursion. This hotel was one of the very best. The rooms were renovated and they are large, clean, and quiet. There are victorian stairways, but also an elevator. Restaurant on the first floor with full bar was convenient and good. Breakfast is not offered with your room, the restaurant opens a little late for people who need an early start to the day, but Mama Bear drive up coffee is just a few steps away. It was all good and we would stay here again. A good value and a very reasonable price. We paid $79.00 for 2 people/1 king and they other room was 2 Queen at $100. ...

We stayed here on 8/21/2012 and were delighted with room 211. It had high windows which overlooked a street with traffic but it was not particularly loud. The room had two queen size beds, high ceilings and was quite large overall. The walk in shower was large enough for two, should you be so inclined. Air conditioning was quiet and worked well. We parked on the street overnight and there is ample space in a public lot to the rear. The facility is old but very clean throughout. Lots of unique stuff adorning the walls. We ate in the hotel restaurant which had very attentive service despite being rather busy with local folks. Dinner was good but not outstanding. Check in and departure were routine.

Room Tip: Their web site has some good photos of the rooms. We were very pleased with room 211.

Rude staff and no air control in the room. Do not dare ask for them to change it because the owner will not. He knows it all and the customer is def not right in his mind. WILL NOT STAY THERE AGAIN NOR WILL I RECOMMEND IT.

Room Tip: stay away its a dump and overpriced
