“Disappointed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

I was hoping for a better room for the money paid. The resort center is extremely run down and needs TLC. The complex is huge and has a lot of activities to do, but the rooms are anything but attractive. First, we had no towels. I called 3 times and finally at 8 p.m. got some delivered. Second, the room needed a serious detail cleaning. There was a layer of dust under the bed and little dead bugs along the perimeter of the room. Smears on the sliding glass door and I could go on. The bathroom was essentially clean except it had cobwebs in the corners and dust on the toilet paper holder, etc. The whole place needs gutted and remodeled. The carpet was nasty and stained and there were holes in the walls behind some of the outlet covers. On a positive, the beds were freshly laundered and clean and the air conditioner was in good working order. I spoke to the front desk with my concerns. I believe they get a lot of these talks. They were not unpleasant but not particularly sympathetic either. They offered us some free breakfast buffets. Sorry, but, there was no way we were going to eat there if the rooms are any indication! I wanted a huge reduction in my rate...but, that wasn't offered. So, hotel booker beware!

Room Tip: This is a huge complex. We were in building G.

This place is completely run-down and is in need of some serious investment.

The rooms looked tatty and worn, dirty marks on the walls, door carpet, bath, windows, curtains. No-one was waiting at reception, so had to ring a bell, and the rotund receptions came schlepping round the corner from the back-office and wasn't particularly pleasant (I must have interrupted Days of Our Lives or her Twinki-scoffing seesion).

Look at the photos to see how worn-down the place is, but apart from the pubic hair on the toilet seat, it was fairly clean in the room but, as my review title suggests, there's only so-much the cleaner can do.

My morning shower was a non-event, as the knob for diverting tap water to the shower-head wasn't working, and so I thought I would have to sit in the grubby bath instead, but as no plug was provided, that wasn't an option either,. So I had to bathe under the tap using a plastic cup to wash myself.

Breakfast was the usual cheap-and-nasty affair, and the only other person in there was a miserable looking employee (the morning bloke from reception), who came in to grab free food and take away back to the infamous back-office.

Would stay again. Rooms were average but clean. Free shuttle to kings island was nice. Indoor pool was nice when it started to rain.basketball, corn hole, two swimming pools, a bar for the adults and many other ammenities makes this place a great choice when traveling with family.

Stayed end of Jan. 2013....Pool and hot tub closed for season....Light fixture inside room fell on my head when I entered room..No one seemed to care. Toilet dirty. Breakfast was free but not great...Carpets are dirty. Its time to tear it down and start over or close.....We have stayed there for a conference for many years...keeps getting older...Would not want children playing on their floors....

Room Tip: go somewhere else

While the KI Resort may be dated, the fact remains it's very close to the park, has FREE shuttle transport to/from the hotel, an indoor/outdoor pool and the their breakfast buffet, along with the food in the hotel bar & grill aren't bad and have descent pricing! When you have a family, the convenience of not having to pay to park and being able to go back to the hotel to rest for a while mid-day...can't be beat! We go every year!

We actually enjoyed this resort very well. The swimming pool was great and tons of fun. I didnt care that is was a outdoor resort I feel much safer indoors. But they have a shuttle over to kings island and it is a fun short ride. The rooms are out dated and small but the pool and everything else makes up for the lack of room. Which when i travel i dont stay in my room much so I loved having all the extras.
