“Lovely!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2014

We were traveling with our grand girls to visit family in Northeastern Ohio.
We wanted the girls to see some of the surrounding areas that their Grandpa had worked on the bridges in his younger days. :)
Truly, a remarkable old grand dame of a historical hotel.Grandpa enjoyed the old libation room, it gave him some moments of respite from the long drive.
What a unique experience for all of us!

Room Tip: Although our room may have had a rooftop view...we were actually able to still see the river and the...

I've stayed there twice and I think overall it is a nice hotel. As you can tell from the title there are a few things to be aware of but I'll talk about what I like first. There is a restaurant and bar in the hotel. The food is surprisingly good with very reasonable prices. You can get anything from hamburgers and sandwiches to filet mignon and red snapper. This last time I got the crab cakes and they were awesome! They have a good beer selection which I appreciated including Great Lakes Beer. The room I got this last time had a king sized bed which was very comfortable and the room was pretty big. The room and bathroom were clean although the furniture in my opinion is a bit rundown. Not 'antique' just rundown. The TV's were older non-flat screens but they worked fine although they were small. Overall I was satisfied with the room. The location is very good with lots of little shops and restaurants within walking distance including a nice paved path next to the river. Also in the morning we got a voucher for a free breakfast of eggs, breakfast meat, bread/english muffin, and hashed browns/home fries which was awesome.

Now just a couple of things to be aware of. My room faced the street this time whereas last time it was on the river side. The traffic noise was very noticeable (ie - loud) even on the fourth floor. If you stay there make sure you ask for a room that does not face the street. There is only one elevator and its the slowest I've ever seen. Patience is needed. The building does not have central air. Each room has a wall air conditioner. There are some really small rooms at the hotel so if that is not something you want make sure you inquire specifically about room size when you book. And the one thing that really affected my trip this time was a couple in the next room that were having an all out knock down, drag out fight for about 3 hours at night which included yelling, screaming, door slamming, threats and cursing. It was terrible and after three phone calls to the front desk security was sent up and got them to settle down. The argument was not the hotel's fault (although their response was slow) but highlight the fact that the walls are kind thin since it sounded like we were right there. I ended up getting about 4 hours of sleep which kind of spoiled the whole stay.

Room Tip: Rooms by the river are quieter. Ask about room size since some are small.

We really enjoyed our overnight stay in the Lafayette Riverboat Hotel. The hotel has a very interesting history and lots of fun and interesting features-artifacts. Our room was nicely decorated in period style. The bathroom was on the small side(old hotel) and the gray, burgandy and pink decor was ...interesting! The room was comfortable, although we had hoped to get a riverview room, however two convention groups made that impossible. It is not pure luxury, but very nice! We loved wandering around and using the beautiful lobby, Gun Room Restaurant(a great complementary breakfast) and the Riverview Lounge. Location is central to old Marietta, Ohio, and for those wanting to walk-jog on the river walk trail.
We hope to return and to be able to stay longer to seek out more of Marietta's offerings. So much history there!

Room Tip: Call ahead and if you prefer "grander" views, request one of the riverview rooms or suites...

I stayed here while looking for a place to move into in Marietta. It is an old building with very few amenities, but it is conveniently located downtown on the river. The price was decent and the hotel, rooms, and bathrooms are kept with antiques which makes for a unique stay. Only word of caution is the rooms and bathrooms are extremely small; this was not an issue for us.

For those interested in 19th Century accommodations with 21st Century amenities, look no further than the Hotel Lafayette in Marietta, Ohio. Sitting on the banks of the Ohio River where it meets the Muskingdum, this grand hotel retains most of its original charm with just enough updates to satisfy the picky traveler. The first floor pub is well appointed and friendly. The nearby restaurant offers a hearty breakfast, though travelers in a rush might eat elsewhere. And parking and WIFI are free.

Look to book in early September (week after Labor Day) for the Sternwheeler Festival if you really want a slice of the 19th Century. This water traveling giants of the past moor just below the hotel.

Room Tip: Don't stay in a room on the main road if you're a light sleeper.

We chose this hotel so it would be convenient to boat rides, Fenton glass company, and Blennerhausett Island. The location is great and it really feels like "stepping back into history". The outside looks rough but the interior of the hotel is something to see!
We ate at both the bar and the restaurant and both were good! For breakfast, the coupons get you 5.00 off.
For the most important part... Do not get the 100.00 queen bed room! We laughed and laughed at how small the room and bed were for the price..and the bathroom..ha..ha..ha!! If you like to pack more than one bag like we do.. Stop..don't bring it..literally won't fit in room! Also, carrying luggage through this hotel setup is a nightmare! The elevator barely fits two people let alone a big luggage cart!
The rooms are noisy..it sounded like cars drag racing under the window both nights!
To summarize, this hotel offers something unique in the historical perspective..it's clean with a good location, and sitting watching the barges go by on the river is awesome! Don't pass this up and just remember not to expect this to be like a chain hotel.

Room Tip: Really understand the room you are getting before you book. The queen room is soooo small it's l...

We were finding a place to stay the night before the burial close by... this seemed to fit the bill as it was cheap enough to get 2 rooms (one for mom/dad and one for my adult 24 year old and 15 year old together just 2 doors down the hall). Husband and I got a queen parlor with sofa bed, 2 TVs and a wet bar $98. The bathroom was small shower only but had everything you needed just luckily we are skinny and could maneuver in the bathroom one at a time but keep in mind this is an old historic hotel why I REALLY wanted to stay here as I just love history!! My Adult children room (two twin beds) had plenty of room in the bathroom a normal shower/tub combo home size bathroom no problem at all and one TV typical their room was only $55 for the night worth it for mom to have her own space in her room :) We had other family in town for the funeral so they also stayed at this same hotel with us they had the parlor room ( I thought I had booked) it had 2 bathrooms one in the queen bedroom area large, then French doors to the living room area a queen size sofa bed and another full bathroom. So my relatives did get a nice size room for their family of four.

All 8 of us had dinner in the restaurant as driving all day none of us wanted to go anywhere else our server was great on splitting our checks and extremely April 9th she was the closing server and stayed beyond closing not saying a word to us about closing as we visited together. We asked her what time they closed she kindly said 40 minutes ago oops sorry to have kept you she was so sweet and said for us not to rush. As we explained what we were in town for and how we had not seen each other.

Again we all had breakfast a different server who was not as kind or attentive as the one the night before. She did not split our checks we had to sort it out ourselves. Some got the complimentarily breakfast some of did not which was difficult to figure out. Some things we ordered we never got and was charged for told our server after we tracked her down she did correct those but still better service if we had gone to McDonalds verses a sit down breakfast in the hotel . But again Dinner service was excellent the night before. So guess it's a hit or miss in the hotel restaurant our experience 50/50 roll the dice.

My husband and I did go into the bar for a drink before bed to relax Charles was the bartender who said he's been there 13 years. Gave us some history on the hotel which was really nice. Great guy as they closed he said just to relax and enjoy your drinks no rush.

The rooms were clean as the entire hotel was again it's a historic hotel so it's not perfect by any means. But very original old which is what I LOVE about this place. I would stay here again for sure if traveling through the area. My relatives stayed an additional night while we were there only one night had other family places we needed to be.

Room Tip: We were on the second floor so easily go up the steps to our room instead of waiting on the slower o...
