Description: In April of 1983, The National Exemplar began operation in the Mariemont, Ohio landmark, The Mariemont Inn. The Inn was constructed in the mid-1920's as a small piece of the very unique Mariemont community, founded by Mary Emery. The National Exemplar Restaurant was named after learning that Mary Emery once referred to her developing community as the National Exemplar, meaning national model community. The National Exemplar Restaurant is a full service, neighborly restaurant serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner seven days a week. We only use the freshest quality ingredients to prepare each meal. Our goal is to serve great food, provide friendly and professional service in a clean and relaxing atmosphere.

“No mirage”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

The National Exemplar's recently appointed Chef Chase Blowers is no vanishing mirage in a desert of so many months now. My wife's and my dinner this week was exactly the promising the exotic date-palm oasis needed, beginning with charcuterie of blue, Spanish manchego, and mild goat's milk cheeses, aged beef, cashews in honey, prosciutto, and more. Preceding the "Duroc Pork Osso Buco" were perfect apple salad and an impossibly divine special: a light creamy carrot soup with with ginger and coriander under a cloud of just a touch of whipped cream. Don't worry, the famed Hungarian mushroom soup, perfect, but only when the paprika, onions, lemon juice, soy sauce, and dill are chef-adjusted, isn't to be retired! The pork, a nicely presented ample shank (rather than traditional 1.5-inch pieces highlighting marrow) was flavorful and as tender as possible. Accompanying grits made with Weisenberger flour were perfectly crisp, just at the surface. The desert behind us, the desserts will have to wait for another night.

“Excellent dinner and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Having tried around 15 restaurants in the area during an long business trip, this is definitively my favorite so far. I had the smoked salmon for starter. It comes with a poached egg, asparagus, a wonderful sauce and some warm bread (go for the white bread, not the rye ;-)). Then, I had the fish of the day, which came with a small potato soup beforehand, then nicely cooked veggies and nuts with an eggplant puree.
The waitress did not know the food-wine pairing very well but was very nice and let me sample a few wines until I found what I wanted.
I had no room for dessert but she offered me a small sample anyway with the check: an Amaretto fudge, amazing!
Everything was delicious and the price more than correct for the quality (45 USD + tip for one person with 2 glasses of wine). Would highly recommend it!

“Classic breakfast hospitality”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

These gracious folks use the lovely wood paneled setting as a stage for trying new ways of providing breakfast hospitality. (My guest told me that the family takes what they learn here and apply it in their chain of First Watch restaurants.) My server was dear, the food was delightful, and the value just right. I'll come back whenever I pass through town again.

“Great Breakfast, Great Service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2013

This restaurant is located in the same building as the Best Western Hotel in Mariemont area of Cincinnati. Warm, nicely decorated restaurant that was very busy with patrons. Attentive service and very quick despite the large crowds. Omelette and waffles were very good, served hot - no delay in getting finished food to our table. Very good coffee too. They are open for lunch and dinner, but we were only there for breakfast. Prices on the up side, but this is not fast food, so I think the prices were fair.

“Slow Service and Below Average Breakfast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

I ordered the "Pope John" which consisted of eggs, muffin, potatoes and a Polish sausage, except what I got was an under grilled hot dog,, no Polish. Muffin comes pre-buttered and it didn't really seem like butter. Coffee weak. Eggs with grilled vegetables left half-uneaten. Long long wait for food. Changing table for infant stuck in lonely basement far from regular washrooms.
