This is a review of the mansfield restaurant on Park Ave in mansfield not the main street location farther south.. I drove by the main street one the night before and picked the park ave location because it looked cleaner...heaven help the main street location if this is the cleaner one.
I rarely trash a restaurant...and if I have a mediocre experience...I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and even try them again later...just to make sure...the joints not completely worthless.. I'm in sales I eat in dives, dirty corporate lunch rooms,cars...tents etc.. daily.. But we're talking trash today... infact eating by the dumpster would possibly have smelled better..
It was a rainy tuesday morning...8 ish in september.
You could smell the odor from the parking lot..as you exited your car. I thought maybe a group of feral cats had sprayed the fixtures outside the building to mark their territory but nope...that smell was in the building too..but stronger... I suspect it's the carpet or the padding but I wasn't going to drop to all fours to find out.
Maybe it was the rags they wipe the tables down with.. but I suspect cats.
Instead of turning tail right then,
We took a booth near the east side windows with a lovely view of the muffler joint next door...a little tight fit for the fatter one in our party.. the restaurant as a whole needs a make over or a nice greese fire. ... surprisingly it was pretty busy with mostly seniors...and the food was dirt cheap if you can call it food.
Service was fine. Food was nasty... I ordered a ham and cheese omelette... it was among the worst I've ever had..., almost un-edible, the ham was just terrible. picking at the egg part to get that nasty ham away from the egg so I could eat some of it. The toast was burnt..and tiny like a charred briquette. just a poor dining experience. the french toast order for the fat guy seemed Ok. Coffee was drinkable. and at least the creamers werent spoiled. No sign of bugs crawling around,....
I've only walked out on one restaurant in my life prior to the food arriving when I saw the cook coughing and spreading grape jam out of a quart jar with a communal knife on my toast in the kitchen (instead of using packets at the table). (but that was an inner city cafe in Gulf port, MS...loaded with suspected homeless people that looked like they all had TB, hackin and coughing.., not middle ohio...so I tossed a 5 on the table, bolted and got a TB test when I arrived home.)
The odor of this place almost made me make a run for it but I stuck it out...and you do eventually get kinda used to the smell.. But for under 9 bucks with drinks for 2....I'd half expected to step over a pile of vomit..to get to the register ,this was not the case....just the cat smell.
Lysol is still in business? Fabreeze? Invest in a couple of cans will ya?
Pull up the carpet...Empire Today, some big orange or blue box, maybe a local mansfield independent carpet layer......they all sell carpet...get some with anti microbial additives...and keep the cats back in the kitchen.
Maybe they actually do keep some cats around to keep the mice down at night or something (you do see that occassionally with businesses , but not in the dining area of restaurants too much)....or maybe it was once a chinese restaurant or a humane society location...and the odor of all those almond chicken dinners or fixed kitty cats still lingers.
Not recommended even for a second try on a dry winter day now way no how..
