“Rude owner. So so wine.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2014

My husband and I stopped in on our GRV wine tour. My husband asked about the pronunciation of Gewürztraminer. The owner immediately spoke very condescendingly towards my husband and was rude. His poor wife tried to cover up for his rude behavior but he continued. We were not even addressing him when asking about the wine. We would not recommend this winery when on the tour. Several others nearby with a better selection of wine. Every other winery in the area had very friendly staff.

“Glad we went ...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 18, 2013

My husband and I stopped by this winery on our way home from a visit to Presque Isle, and we are sure glad we stopped. We sampled all of the reds and ended up buying 3 bottles, after spending some time talking to one of the owners. She explained things very well and gave us a little history & lessons on the different wines - it was very interesting. As we were there in the middle of the week and the middle of the day, we had her undivided attention, which was great. Would definitely go again.

“Gem in the Grand River valley”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

We came to their small vineyard near Thompson shortly after they opened. Wine was very good then. Fast forward to 2013, we've been several times this summer, to their Rte. 307 "Pinot Vista" tasting room. They've expanded their vineyard, built a new place with a stunning view over the Grand River valley, and to the hills of Geuaga County to the south. Their Pinot Noir rivals the wines of the Russian River Valley of Sonoma County (we were there in the spring). Their Shiraz is as good as any we've tasted. Their others wines are as good or better than any in the area.

“Pinot Noirs which beat California wines in California”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

This was second visit to St Joseph's which is run by an Engineer who said WHY NOT when it came to Pinot Noirs as well as other grapes - Sangiavase grapes. My wife and I talked to one of the owners for 1/2 hr while tasting the wines. She spent allot of time explaining some of the special things which needed to be done with the Pinot Noir Vines and Grapes. We discussed the Silver Medals which they won in California - 400 Pinots awarded Gold, Silver or Bronze out of 3000 entries. I asked if there was any differences between St Joe's and West Coast - she stated it was mainly sugar content, St Joe's had none while West Coast usually has some residuals which is what the judges likes.
One thing she stated was the grapes used in their wine they grow not like some of the wineries which they call KIT Wineries who buy their grapes.
Only sad thing, we should have save more money for their wine since their winery was 2nd last place and we bought quit a bit. We have 3 wineries which are have to if we get up there again - this being one.
