“Georgian Manner with Southern Manners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2014

We just stayed in A Georgian Manner this past weekend and I felt compelled to write a review of our stay. My girlfriend and I much appreciated the ability to stay for only 1 night as this best fit our schedule. Though online it appeared they were booked, I called the number listed on their site and spoke with BJ, the owner, who told us he'd had a cancellation. I appreciated that he was readily available by phone when I called.

This was the second to last weekend in October so we had gorgeous fall foliage to accompany our first view of the house. When you walk into the home, you can tell BJ has taken care to decorate every room with care. There are many old relics which make the stay in an old home feel more authentic.

We spent the night in the Stonewall Jackson room (the smallest, just a bed and room for suitcases). The room was perfect for the two of us, as we planned to spend most of our days out on the trails. Upon arrival, we took out the canoe and enjoyed gliding with the several swans that inhabit the lake. Afterward we drove appx. 20 minutes to the trails and spent the afternoon hiking. Though there is a full kitchen to which guests have access, we decided for pizza in town before returning home to visit with the 3 other couples who were staying in the home that weekend.

The next morning we were up at 8:30 for a hearty home-style breakfast cooked by Debbie, consisting of eggs, sausage, french toast, yogurt and fruit. We appreciated that when we signed in, we were provided the opportunity to outline any dietary restrictions for breakfast. We spent our morning around a large table, swapping stories, sharing experiences and listening to BJ describe the history of the house and surrounding area. It is obvious he loves what he does and thrives off the good people he meets at the B&B.

We will be recommending A Georgian Manner to our friends and hope readers will take advantage as well.

Room Tip: Get the honeymoon suite if you can!

BJ and Debbie made our stay very comforting. The house and landscaping was gorgeous and it made our stay unforgetable. We stayed in the Queen Mary suite and shared a bathroom with the Crystal Rose room. There was no problem sharing it. The guests of the house were all quiet and I felt we were the only ones there. The breakfast was delicious and was made by Debbie and the conversation during breakfast was intriguing. Everyone felt included in the conversation. BJ is a wonderful Inn keeper a day is full of knowledge with Hocking history and Civil War history. We will be back.

We needed a get away time and although I had been to Hocking Hills this was the first time for my husband. We found A Georgian Manner online and and booked it. What a delightful surprise!!! The cleanliness, the elegant decor, the surrounding grounds were amazing! We stayed in the "Honeymoon Suite" and felt like we were royalty! The veranda overlooking the lake was soooo charming! From the elegantly appointed sitting rooms, to the delightful dining rooms - everything was perfect. The owner, BJ , went out of his way to make us feel at home. We loved talking with BJ and hearing the history of the Georgian Manner and how he restored it to it's beautiful state.Debbie's breakfasts were delicious! When we return to Hocking Hills this is definitely where we will stay again!

A unique and excellent stay. Loved the attention to detail in the decor and building of this antebellum B&B. The view of the lake with swans and Autumn trees in the hills were just spectacular. Debbie was gracious and informative. She provided wonderful breakfasts that were just the ticket before a hike in the Hocking Hills. BJ was quite a character, easy to talk to, with equal parts interest in your life and entertaining tales of his own. This man appreciates each breath the good Lord has given him, as evidenced by his life accomplishments. I highly recommend a stay here.

I travel for business every week and have stayed in "ordinary" hotels like Mariott and JW. My wife and I have been to several historic hotels and "Signature" properties throughout the US... nothing compares to elegance and comfort that BJ's self-restored Georgian Manner provides. No surprise that it was voted #1 of 8500 B&B's on the world! Imagine walking into a gorgeous Civil War themed foyer to Gershwin's Autumn-Themed piano music in the background. BJ made every effort to make both your first impression and your stay wonderful. Every room you enter is meticulously detailed with beautiful antiques. BJ, its owner and caretaker, spent 7 years building a B&B to remember. My wife and I loved relaxing over wine on the front porch rockers overlooking the lake, compete with swans and other wildlife. With the long porch, tall white columns and dimmable lighting it felt like we relaxing in Southern Georgia itself. Bring your favorite bottle of wine, champaign or drinks a treat yourself for a night or two. How about a romantic late-night candle-lit jacuzzi bath for two in the Honeymoon or Robert E Lee suite?
Debbi's breakfast in the morning was superb! Fresh hot coffee was ready as we walked downstairs. Everyone was friendly and sociable. BJ can tell you literally anything you want to know about Hocking Hill history. We chose the Robert E Lee room and the bed, sheets and atmosphere were comforting. I commended BJ on his NO two-night minimum policy on the weekends as it allowed my wife and I the chance to experience this true Diamond-in-the Rough! Thank you!

Room Tip: All main rooms have a view of the lake. Go with the "suite" option for the Robert E Lee o...

Loved our stay at A Georgian Manner B&B. Celebrating milestone birthday we booked the Honeymoon Suite and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We highly recommend for any special occasion or a relaxing and pampered getaway. If you love the outdoors and also appreciate elegant furnishings, this is the perfect place. Nice and private outdoor patio off of our large and elegantly appointed room, with beautiful view overlooking Lake Logan, ideal for sharing a bottle of wine, making a fire, and enjoying the peaceful sights and sounds of nature. We really appreciated being greeted by Debbie when we arrived. She welcomed us and gave us a tour around the home, showing us the entire downstairs which guests are invited to make themselves at home. Spent time in the Civil War Library relaxing, sipping champagne, and looking over BJ's treasures. Debbie cooked an excellent breakfast, and we really enjoyed our time visiting with BJ, both are outstanding hosts. We look forward to returning soon!

Room Tip: Highly recommend the Honeymoon Suite

This place took my breath away when we arrived...the house and grounds are stunning. As beautiful and peaceful as the house itself is, BJ made it over the top perfect by making sure we felt at home. BJ is a fascinating historian who obvious loves taking care of his guests and will make you feel like you have made a new friend. You will NOT be disappointed with the Georgian Manner!!
