“good food and service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2013

We had such a good meal we went back the next night. The food was great and the service delightful. Our server was so friendly and sweet. There were 4 of us for dinner and everyone's food was great.

Wow, glad you dined with us two night's in a row. Anthony, our chef, has done a great job of creating an inviting menu with multiple entrees to entice you to dine with us during all night's of your stay. And, it changes seasonally too.

“Awful food, oppressive policies”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2012

We are a family of four who ate at the Inn on Saturday, December 21. When we made our reservation, we were informed that if we did not cancel it by 3 pm of that day, we would be charged $35. This is ridiculous. The restaurant is comfortable and well-appointed and we had a very nice table. Our reservation was for 5:30 pm, and there was only one other table occupied for the first half hour we were there, but somehow the bartender was busy, so our glasses of wine were delayed. When they got their, the nervous, but kind waitress could not tell one glass of white wine from another, so gave us the wrong drinks. I identified mine as the one given my husband, but what I had been given was definitely not what anyone at the table had ordered, but we decided not to contest it, benefit of the doubt and all that, and feeling bad for the waitress. Why mention two procedural aspects like this? Because this is a very expensive restaurant and good, expensive restaurants with a no-show charge for reservations should be able to do a little better than this. Now, onto the food - no side salads, just an $8.00 salad, which the waitress kindly split between the two of us who wanted one. It was a fine, classic Caesar, but nothing special for the money, and would have been quite small as an appetizer. As it turned out, "nothing special" would be the best we could hope for. There were very few options on the menu (about 7). My son ordered the butternut squash ravioli, which was OK - about as good as a frozen ravioli with the same ingredients (again, this is good for this restaurant). My husband ordered a tasteless Mahi-mahi filet (normally a fish with a lot of flavor) coated in (canned?) crabmeat and covered with some kind of sweet fruit sauce (pomegranate I think). It was frankly disgusting both to look at and eat. Again, expensive, pretentious (by itself not a bad thing) restaurant with very low level skills. Why so many over-sweet fruit sauces on so many of the dishes? My three totally flavorless scallops had piles of what was supposed to be pork belly chutney, but was so ridiculously sweet (blackberries?) that there was no hint of pork belly or anything in the flavors, no texture - it was just weird. I mixed it in with my rice to make it palatable. Also in the rice was one broccolini floret and half a dozen skinny stems (the veg), same for my husband's dish. We were hungry. We had been hiking all day. We were going to eat it no matter what. But these were not flavors that went well together in any world. For dessert, my son lucked out with a good creme brulee (but again, nothing special), but the fruit cobbler (husband) and pistachio genoise ice cream were again over-sweet beyond belief - which is a shame, because for the latter, I could sense there was great pistachio flavor in there hopelessly masked by the sugar. At one point my daughter and I went to the rest room, a single seater. While she was in there, I waited, was clearly in the way since it is in the circulation area for the waitstaff to and from the open kitchen. I moved into the tiny bar area to wait instead, and was directed to use the gift shop bathroom if I liked. It was 27 degrees outside. I was not going to walk outside to use a bathroom in another building - again, at these prices, you can put in a proper rest room. Our bill for four (only two alcoholic beverages, and my daughter ordering a teeny pasta dish from the children's menu) was $140 -- for what we received, this is insane. There aren't a lot of places to eat in the Hocking Hills - I am sorry to say this one should be avoided.

Thank you for taking the time to write. We are a small, intimate restaurant with dining rooms in
1840's log cabins and we cook to order. Therefore, we require dinner reservations and have a cancellation policy.
Our mission is to strive for excellence and sometimes we fall short. When an unhappy guest notifies us at the time of their visit, we will do everything possible to correct the problem so guests leave satisfied.

“Restaurant Review”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

For the second time this fall we traveled from Dayton, OH to the Inn & Spa at Cedar Falls near Logan, OH. The first time was principally to enjoy the autumn colors of this area. We found the perfect spot to dine at this Inn & Spa. All four of our party were wonderfully pleased with taste and quality of the food and service. If you can find a filet that is better than the that which was served, tell us about it. For that reason, we took the opportunity to visit there again in this off-season when a special over-night package was presented. Again, with the same party of four, we were most pleased with our dining experience. All entrees served were wonderful and again the two of us that had the filet were most pleased. The entire staff at this restaurant are there to make certain that you are satisfied.

Wow, returning twice within a couple of months, how lucky we are! Delighted you liked the food both times. And, I agree, we are fortunate to have such a wonderful staff who takes excellent care of our guests. Come visit in the winter, it's my favorite time of year.

“Great romantic dining”

You don't expect to find dining like this in the Ohio hill country. Everything was excellent, and the atmosphere can't be beat.

“Way over rated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Busy and very expensive. Food was just ok and for the price, not worth it.
We will not return. The location, next to Old Man's cave state park, is all this place has going for it.

Guessing you came for lunch and glad to hear we were busy, that's great news for us. One of our best assets is our location, nestled between Old Man's Cave and Cedar Falls. A perfect stop over for those hiking the trails!
