“This place is fabulous!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2010

We found the owners to be very accomodating, helpful and pleasant. Our cabin had 2 rooms which were clean and lovely with some nice little homey touches. We loved the seclusion, too. What a wonderful and relaxing time. We highly recommend Springwood Cabins!

I echo the reviews above--very snotty that i brought 2 extra kids told them charge away. Large wasp nest and they grudingly came to help after being silent for about 60 seconds after i told them of the problemon the phone. Here is the weirdest thing. my son was doing homework in one of the bedrooms and someone in a hat was staring at him from outside after it got dark. Felt like i had fallen into some bad horror movie....

The grounds are beautiful but the cabin needs updated badly! It was dirty, the bedspread smelled musty and there was mice droppings (plus the mouse) in the stove, cabinets and sink.

The "Manager" or "Owner" was very rude and made a big deal out of us using already BURNT wood from the new cabin being built, for our campfire. We didn't use it because we were pissed off and we actually left 1 night early because she left a bad taste in our mouths.

We saw MANY other cabins that were beautiful, stay at one of those and avoid Turkey Hollow and it's management team.

We arrived on a snowy afternoon to their newest 2b/2ba cabin. The price was high($240/night), so we expected something great, WRONG ANSWER! The furnishings were inadequate and freugal to say the least. The amount of firewood provided was ridiculously low. They only provided us with 4 towels and 4 washcloths, even though we had a hot tub. We had to use the same towel all weekend. There weren't enough pots/pans and dishes. There wasn't a closet or chest or dresser in the bedrooms so we had to keep our clothes in our bag and on the floor the whole time. The owner is rude and gives very poor customer service. We asked for more firewood, since it was snowing we'd be stuck in the cabin all weekend and wanted to burn a fire all day. She refused more wood to us but said she could sell us a truck load for an extra $100. We also brought our 3 small children last minute due to a childcare issue. We didn't think this was a problem since we had a 2b/2ba cabin and our youngest sleeps in a pack-n-play. The owners charged us an extra $45 per day for our children even though we had rented a cabin large enough to accomodate us. This place was terrible all the way around, we will never return to Springwood Cabins!!!

I stayed at Turkey Hollow Labor Day weekend. It was a very peaceful place to take the dogs for a relaxing getaway. Yes, the cabin is pet friendly, but I barely noticed any pet odor or hair. I would have loved to have stayed in a cabin with a bigger kitchen so we didn't have to roll out the table for each meal. Even though it was small, the accomodation was comfortable. TV with DirecTV and a DVD player were a must, as well as the grill and coffee pot. The water pressure was good, and please do bring bottled water - it smells awful! Overall I would recommend this cabin to a pet owner who would like a cozy place to stay.

2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2008

We stayed in the “Turkey Hollow” cabin run by Springwood Cabins the nights of October 3 and 4, 2008. The cabins are located a little northeast of Hocking Hills State Park and a little southwest of Logan, Ohio. They are in a remote and secluded location, although Turkey Hollow is nearest the main road so occupants of the other cabins drive by on the gravel road to get out of the Springwood Cabins area so it’s not 100% quiet. These cabins are pet friendly, but we didn’t realize that would mean “pet-stinky”. The cabin smelled awful – very strongly like wet dog, slightly like urine. Even though the nights were in the 40’s, we kept the windows open at all times with the furnace running and overhead fans running to try to mitigate the smell. The hot tub was about 50 feet from the cabin – it was heated and smelled of chlorine, but there was dirt or silt or something standing at the bottom of it. There was no way we were going to get in the tub with that stuff in it. These were the main problems.
The Turkey Hollow cabin could be very nice for two people if a little more attention was paid to detail. The term “delayed maintenance” came to my mind several times over the weekend. The cabin was swept out, but the decorations up on the shelves were dusty and spider webbed. I reached under the bed for a sock and found large dust bunnies under the bed. The queen-sized bed was fairly comfortable, but the pillows were very thin and the linen didn’t seem fresh. I also detected an odor of pet urine near the place where I laid my head – I think someone’s pet had urinated on the mattress and someone had tried to eliminate the odor but it didn’t quite work. There is no closet in the cabin nor a single hook to hang clothes on. I’ve never been in a bathroom that didn’t have a hook or two to hang things on! The bath mat was dirty and very frayed. We were provided with four bath towels, one hand towel, and two washcloths. I did not feel that two washcloths was sufficient for two people for two nights. The folding door to the closet where the furnace and water heater are kept was completely off its hinges and leaned against the furnace. Another warning – and there is nothing the owners can do about this because the water in the Hocking Hills area is so full of minerals – the water smells bad. Make sure to take drinking water with you.
The secluded location also meant the cabin was not close to restaurants so we went prepared to cook every meal in the cabin. Cooking there was tough due to the not-especially-clean cookware and dishware and the frypans were completely worn out. The stove was extremely small and basic, but it worked. The door handle to the refrigerator was taped with duct tape and the freezer needed to be de-iced, but it worked OK. The dining table and chairs are folded up under a window and we couldn’t quite figure out how to unfold the table so we wound up trying to balance our plates on the tiny coffee table in front of the couch.
For the money we spent on our 2-night stay in Turkey Hollow, we could have gotten a very nice hotel room for two nights…or stayed FIVE nights in one of the Lake Hope State Park cabins. It could be a nice cabin if it was deodorized, cleaned up, some of the worn-out stuff was replaced, and the hot tub was properly maintained.

  • Liked — Quiet, secluded area. Could be very nice with some attention to detail.
  • Disliked — It smelled awful!
