We had an impromptu trip to Cleveland to pick up some records we had ordered, and when I was looking into hotels and b & b's, this place came up. It was about 45 min from Cleveland which was a bit of a turn off to me, but after looking into it, it looked unique and was cheaper than most of the hotel options. We picked the Log Cabin which was only $60 for one night (that's the price of a really low quality hotel, right?). We pulled up and went down a long gravel road that lead to the house.
We were greeted by Jan, and she made us feel right at home. She gave us a little tour, and we got to see the greenhouse/pool area. There is so much cool stuff in there! A deep heated pool (probably 10 feet or so), that had a rope swing you could jump off into. A jacuzzi, exercise equipment, little bar, tables, a movie projector and a few games (putt putt, foozball, bean bag toss, air hockey). Best of all, unlike hotel pool areas, this greenhouse was open to us for the entirety of our stay (no rushing to get to the pool before it closes like in a hotel).
Then we were taken outside down a small hill into a wooded area with a fire pit, a few benches a picnic table and the cabin! The cabin was one of a kind, Jan had designed it herself and her husband and a local amish man had built it. It was small and on wheels/trailer so it could be towed around to different camping areas, but it was a true log cabin built from scratch! The inside was even more impressive, there was city water, a small heater, a window A/C unit (it kept the whole room cool the whole time!), a fold out couch and a ladder leading up to a small loft bed with window view of the camp area. Like I said, a truly one of a kind experience! Our bathroom was a shared bathroom in the pool area, but it had two showers in it and was clean as a whistle.
We sort of basked in how awesome this place was, and then went for a short hike back in the woods, and saw a few deer running around in the meadows. And then we spent the rest of the night alternating between having beers by the fire and hanging out in the pool area. There also is a small manmade pond that they have stocked with blue gill and bass if you like to fish.
Breakfast in the morning was awesome! We had plenty of food, and had enough for a meal later in the day. Jan was a really great host, all of the supplies we needed were already there for us, from silverware and plates in the cabin to towels in the pool area, all we had to bring was food to cook around the fire (or you can use the gas grill out by the fire pit).
All in all, this stay was completely spontaneous but I feel like we are going to end up going there again very soon, I can imagine having a big family vacation there and renting the rooms out for a couple days. It was off the beaten path, but so worth it. Everything was clean and ready for us to use. I can only imagine the kind of treatment I had gotten in hotels I had paid nearly twice as much money for and I am so glad that we stumbled onto this little gem!
