Historic sites run by local organizations are sometimes disappointing. Few will walk away from the Sherman house with this emotion.
Sherman is a major figure in 19th-century American history and this house where he grew up in central Ohio is worthy of his prominence. It is filled with original items possessing Sherman connections and the interpretation is a mixture of his boyhood environment and an honest assessment of his miltiary achievements. Anyone visiting the Columbus area with an interest in the Civil War or historic homes should make the trek to Lancaster (about 40 minutes). The town is charming as well--make a day of it.
