Asked some local Target employees for good dining, off the "Chain" radar. They gave me this place.
As I walked up from the parking lot, I passed the deli next door sharing the name. There was a smoker parked in front of the entrance, puffing an awesome smoky smokiness that led me to believe I'd come to a good place.
Inside the restaurant, the atmosphere is almost like Grandma's house but with better windows and some added clear-bulb lighting to line the walls & ceilings. It's cozy, the staff was welcoming - I think I even got a wink from Mamma in the kitchen - and I didn't feel out of place while dining solo. The menu has the usual assortment of Italian offerings, including Mamma's Specialties. I ordered the Lasagna and was not disappointed.
But what deserves special mention is the housemade Italian dressing. It's a red wine vinaigrette base, and it's awesome. Normally, I need a tomato overdose on a salad; with Mamma's dressing, I enjoyed the lettuce and later appreciated the lone slice of tomato because I wasn't relying on it. I must warn you, however, that if you're anti-salt, choose wisely. The dressing did have its bitterness, but that's one factor that made it so damned good in my face.
On the way out, an older fellow whom I assumed was related somehow to the general ownership shook my hand as I passed. I made it a point to tell him what a great place this is.
And then I had to pass by that amazing meat smoker again.
