“First Time B&B Visitors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2011

Captain Montagues was everything we hoped when booking our 1st trip to a B&B. The owners were warm and informative. The home was beautiful and spotlessly clean. There was an inground pool & lovely outdoor area that we didn't get the opportunity to use, but it definitely adds to the property. I would highly recommend this B&B. Oh, and the hot breakfast was delish!!!

We stayed at Captain Montague's B&B in August 2011. We got to enjoy the hospitality of Judy and Mike and the very warm, welcoming and nicely decorated house, bedrooms and backyard. Judy and Mike are truly exceptional hosts and their house is a oasis of tranquility and comfort. Their backyard, patio, pool are so relaxing and comfortable. Their breakfast is excellent. If you are lucky, you may get to taste their irresistible brownies...

Captain Montague's is a gem and Mike and Judy are the gem keepers. We would echo what other reviews have said and add a few of our favorite things: It's like visiting a beautiful historic 19th century home but not having to stay behind the ropes; breathtaking chandeliers; Irish Santas; the welcoming personality of each guest room; a whimsy on the dining room wall; sheleighlies in the Cranberry Parlor; swinging on the double glider; sweet treats at breakfast; and Mike and Judy who make the experience so special. Don't miss out on this!

Room Tip: Our daughter and husband enjoyed the morning sun in Edith's room while we stayed at the top of t...

Stayed here overnight in the middle of a long trip. It was a wonderful respite and pause in the middle of a hectic month! Mike and Judy are wonderful hosts and Judy is a marvelous cook! The breakfast was amazing! The house itself is gorgeous!!! They have restored this bed and breakfast beautifully! It is a short (less than 2 blocks) walk to a lovely park on the shore of Lake Erie and there is a ton of stuff to do in Huron and the surrounding areas. My only regret is that I did not have the time to explore the area! My husband and I are making plans now to spend a week here next summer. Highly recommended!!!

Since our first visit last summer, we've been thinking about returning for another evening beside the beautiful pool reading and sharing a bottle of our favorite wine (more expensive than we usually get - bought especially for this visit). Our second visit was in December - didn't really lend itself to reading by the pool. This trip was just as nice as the first two. We love the Captain's Quarters room and the breakfast was marvelous, as usual - melon and blueberries with banana/cinnamon chip pancakes. I can't think of anything we'd change. We'll be back!

This B&B is head and shoulders above many I have visited. The rooms (both public and private) were well decorated and spotlessly clean. The location just up the street from Lake Erie and surrounded by beautiful home is great. The hosts - Judy and Mike - new friends forever.

Room Tip: They are all great!

It's hard to pick what was our favorite...location close to Lake Erie...beautiful B&B....the warm hospitality from the innkeepers...the beautiful guest rooms and common area...the delicious white chocolate cranberry scones at breakfast. All of those things put together made the perfect get away. It was just too short. We definitely want to return in warmer weather to experience the area.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
This elegant Victorian Italianate home was built in the late 1870's by the owner of the lumberyard who was also a master shipbuilder. Capt. C.Z. Montague, a Great Lakes captain of renown, and his wife Sarah purchased the large property in 1890 and were known throughout the area for their grand parties and receptions. Current owners, Judy & Mike Tann, have operated the B&B for 18 years carrying on the tradition of warm hospitality. They have carefully restored each of the guest rooms and all of the common areas to their former beauty. There are 2 parlors, the Irish parlor and the cranberry parlor, where guests can relax. The large dining room with its magnificent Waterford crystal chandelier welcomes guests to a delicious full breakfast ending with the house signature, Irish cottage scones. There is a galley kitchen that guests can use at any time, and there are always snacks and soft drinks available. All five of the guest rooms have private en-suite bathrooms and luxurious linens. The property runs a full city block, so there is ample parking plus lush greenery and vibrant flowers gracing the large gazebo and in-ground swimming pool. Captain Montague's is located just 2 short blocks from Lake Erie to the north and the Huron River to the east. Its location is in the historic district known as the "Old Plat"; a self-guided tour brochure developed by Huron's Historical Society provides detailed information about many of the century homes in the neighborhood. Captain Montague's B&B is a retreat for guests seeking a quiet, relaxed atmosphere where they can refresh both body and soul. The Tanns will see to it that you receive a grand Irish welcome. ... more   less
