I went online to look for and book a hotel. I found the Days Inn Huber Hts Dayton Ne listed as one of the hotels that met the criteria I wanted. I called to ask a question (thru another booking site), which (according the man I spoke with) directed me to a booking agent. I told him what dates I wanted a room, that I specifically wanted a King Size Bed and a smoking room. He repeated and confirmed, twice as a matter of fact, that I wanted a King Smoking room. All went smoothly as I booked thru him and he said I would get the rates that were listed on the internet, which I did.
Moving along to our actual trip, we arrived at the hotel approximately 10pm the night of our check-in. No big deal, we had let them know we would be late. I go in the sign in and the manager, as well as the staff member manning the desk we're neither too happy to actually have to check me in this late in the evening. I tell them my name, they give me the key cards, and off to my room I go. We get to the room, and I can already see without opening the door that it is a non-smoking room, based on the big placard in the window and on the door. I go back down to the desk and complain. They tell me that the only King rooms they have left are non-smoking, to which I ask why I was able to book a King Smoking if they had none available. They flat out told me that they don't guarantee what travel sites book thru their website and that was that. I told them I wanted a smoking room once again, and at first they told me they had zero smoking rooms period. After a few more minutes arguing with them, the manager rolled his eyes at me and went to the back of the office, then came back out. They have a 2 Double Beds Smoking room and that was all they could do. Fine, I'll take it. But I still thought for my trouble and the principle of it, I should get some kind of apology or compensation or something. I got nothing. I was furious, took the key cards and left.
The room wasn't the greatest. The sink would not drain at all. The tub had no way of keeping water in it. The drawers were off track and broken. There was a fist hole in the wall. The doorjamb was about half an inch lower than the door, so to keep the flies out, we had to put a bed spread down against the door. They made it clear downstairs that I would not be getting any money back and that they refused to give me my money back if I canceled our reservations for the rest of the stay, so we stuck it out.
I will be hesitant to ever stay at Days Inn ever again, and especially since this specific one doesn't care what you book online - they'll just give you whatever they want anyhow.
