Looking for quiet and peaceful spot is usually fairly difficult over the Easter break. This can especially the case when you choose a location like Phillip Island, a highly popular tourist destination only 80-90 minutes from the city of Melbourne. Despite this, the need for a short, restful break to regenerate after a rather hectic start to the year, saw us choosing The Hill of Content in Rhyll on Phillip Island. Having spent considerable time on the island over the years, getting to the 'The Hill' was not difficult, although I did feel sympathy for those reviewers who found the property difficult to locate, especially in poor light. I made the mistake of giving my home number on the Wotif booking, not aware that our host, Fiona, uses the mobile to contact guests prior to arrival to meet them and direct them to their accommodation. The consequence of course was for your's truely and she who must be obeyed, wandering in the gardens looking for Reception - well it was a beautiful afternoon and it was nice to have some air after the driving! Fiona took us through the operation of the well appointed, Loft Apartment, "Timber", one of two such units, which despite the name and the description, 'set amongst the trees', was not difficult to get to at all. I was quite surprised not only the excellent fittings of the unit, but also it's size, even incorporating a walk-in dresser. This becomes an important issue when you are staying anywhere longer that a couple of nights - we stayed for 4 days. All the promised features of the Loft apartments lived up to the reporting from other travelers. The kitchenette was well appointed and quite practical - not a full kitchen, but enough to get by including a very easy to use dishwasher. The queen bed was indeed comfortable, but situated under the pitched roof as it is, the partner drawing the short straw must impersonate the hunch-back to get into bed on the window side of the room. We did experience a few minor 'technical' issues, however Fiona responded to these quickly to rectify the problems. The free wifi was easy to connect to and provided a good speed for emails and some internet searching. You are given the wifi connection password on arrival. The breakfast provisions were plentiful, including a basket of eggs, a loaf of fresh bread, a packet of bacon and packs of gourmet muesli. From the lounge, as long as you hadn't already fallen asleep in the recliner, you could see some parts of the bay between the tree tops. The privacy was very good, and although we new from the vehicles in the carpark, that other units were occupied, we heard nothing of their coming and going. The Hill is just a short distance from the peaceful village of Rhyll, nature board walks through wetland areas and literally across the road from the Rhyll Trout Farm & Restaurant. Overall we had a delightful stay, with the positives far outweighing the few minor negatives. Recommend it for those wanting to avoid the madding crowds.
