“Abit overpriced but very nice.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 16, 2009

We stayed at piermont retreat as part of a 4 day trip to Tassie from Melbourne. The booking process was easy and email communication with the managers was good.

We booked the Premium spa suite which was at the higher end of their price range. The pictures on the net were lovely and the room definitely lived up to them.
We were however a bit disappointed to find the cottage was attached to another cottage. The balcony was next to the neighbors balcony and the other neighbor was only about 3 meters away.
The windows behind the bed looked directly into the windows of the neighboring suite so of course the blinds were always down.

Im just going to do a bit of a pros and cons list or ill be here forever!
Pros
-Great View
-Very clean
-New fresh feel
-Nicely decorated
-Bed was very comfy but we didn't sleep very well because of the door banging in the wind (fixed with a magazine wedged in between)
-Under floor heating in bathroom nice
-Nice big bath, nice big shower head

Cons (Some are overly picky....Really just observations!!)
-Attached to another suite
-Too close to neighbour
-The retreat was more like a small community of cabins which kind of took away from the whole "secluded" feel
-No couch, only two single seats and an ottoman
-Small LCD tv on large wall
-No fireplace or slow combustion fire-just electric heaters
-We were told to boil the water before drinking - There was no pre boiled water in the fridge.
-No breakfast offered at restaurant
-Wobbly door banged all night
-Beautiful window in bathroom near bath too high to see out when you are in the bath?
-Ipod dock didnt work with Iphone
-We felt a little overpriced

We just wanted to say that our 3rd year at Piermont for Easter was as expected..........perfection!
Again I have a suntan from Tasmania in April; people don’t know how warm it is there. Although I wish you rain on the east coast.
Your spot on our planet is one of complete serenity, we always leave so relaxed and rejuvenated its better than going to a Spa.
Each day we watched the sunrise and set and it was stunning and with the bonus of a full moon at night.
This was our longest stay and it was perfect, we stocked up on food supplies and cooking gear, DVD’s, it was like camping.
The cabins are so unique and comfortable and that fireplace is exceptional.
Darren was in RC plane heaven, thank you for letting him use your air space.
Warmest regards, Tracey & Darren, Melbourne Victoria.
We may even see you again this year, if not, we have already booked in for 2010, Room 12. Hopefully we may bring some friends; your guests that had kids were having a ball.

We stayed four nights here. I agree with other reviewers - the receptionist is quite surly and no good on client service. The sign out front desperately needs a repaint as it is now very tired and tatty.

We had one of the best cottages which looked great and we slept very well. However, amongst the minor irritations - the nails in the floorboards were not hammered in properly, in several spots in the room. I kept catching my feet or socks on them. The windows did not open properly - I was worried that if I forced them they might break. The fire place had a screen on it that was supported on two drill bits and difficult to manouvre. We lit the fire once. The heat went up the chimney. This may have been wind direction on the day. The kitchen was poorly equipped. The washing machine and dryer were almost inaccessible because of building design. The TV screen is not much bigger than my laptop and the seating in the lounge area is uncomfortable.

This is in a beautiful location. The food at the restaurant was good. We were given lots of privacy. There are some pleasant walks around the property. It does have a wonderful king size bed and we really did sleep amazingly well.

Would I go again? Probably, yes. But I would not plan on eating in much. This is near to one of the world's most beautiful places and I love the bed.

my husband and I and our two small children (4 and 5 ) recently returned from a long weekend at Piermont. We had seen the resort on "bill's holiday" on foxtel before we went and had very high expectations. On arrival our expectations were exceeded and we were delighted to find that the real thing is even more beautiful than the website. We had a great cottage that overlooked the bay to Freycinet - simply stunning. The cottage was fully equipped with everything we could have needed - loved the touch of the wood and kindling outside the back door to take the chill off with a wood fire the next morning. We dined in the restuarant on the Saturday night and found the food amazing - a great match for what must be one of the best views to dine to in the world. We left feeling very relaxed and smug that we had found such a perfect place that we will be returning to again and again.

In reference to some of the reviews, if you pay for a cheap room... you'll get a cheap room! There are new and old cottages and from what we could tell it is worth paying more for a better room. We stayed in no. 21, a premium spa suite and it looked just like the website photo, beautiful! Fantasic location, a huge luxurious bathroom and a deck overlooking the beach.
Even better than the accommodation was the restaurant, the crab bisque was one of the best we've had! We would very very strongly recommend dinning in, we tried all the local places Ebb, Banc, etc and it was by far the best. The service in the restaurant was great , the front desk a bit rough... but not a big deal.
One thing, when we arrived it literally stank like an open sewer, something to do with rotting seaweed. Not a good welcome but it passed within a few hours!!! Overall a fantastic place to chill out but there is not much to do around Swansea, Freycinet is great but a 40min drive away.

Superlatives cannot describe this place. Awesome find. Cottage right on the beach. They indicated that the "magnetic flux" something or other would ensure a good sleep - didn;t believe it - until 12 hours of sleep later - wow. Most relaxed I( have felt in a long time. Wished we coudl have stayed longer - but they were fully booked for ever

We had booked Piermont as our Christmas holiday destination. As per previous reviews, I would like to warn prospective guests to ensure they clarify with management which cottage they are to be given for their stay. It seems whilst all the rates charged are standard, the cottage you are allocated can vary dramatically from good to sub standard.
Ours was No.2 and was run down and shabby. The kitchen was not well equipped ( items missing and not very clean) The bathroom was dark, dingy and did not remotely match any of the web site photos ( I had thought of long relaxing baths whilst enjoying the view - not likely) Water pressure in the shower was also a gamble (depending on who else was using water on the property)
The wood stove did not operate successfully (it does get chilly in Tasmania in summer!)
The floors were very dusty and there was a general air of disrepair and no attention to detail - especially given the cost per night's stay.
We too found the attitude of the managing staff to be indifferent at best - that may be part of the overall problem.
Having said all that, the location is stunning and the views absolutely wonderful. The restaurant was a surprise. We had two dinners there and the food was very good. If management were to pay some attention to details and bring all the cottages up to the standard expected by their guests, they would once again have a holiday destination that would be worth visiting.

  • Liked — The location and aspect overlooking Great Oyster Bay
  • Disliked — The run down condition of the cottage and it's amenities
