“Nice renovation of historic cottages”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

Our group of 13 occupied 4 cottages booked through the Stanley Hotel.
The cottages have all been tastefully renovated to provide modern facilities but retain the historic theme that makes Stanley such a delightful destination.
We stayed in the Green House which as the largest and most central cottage became HQ for the group.
The beds were comfortable, kitchen well equipped and the bathrooms large and spotlessly clean.
The location is close to the Stanley Hotel, at which the group dined one evening.
There are so many things to do in/around Stanley, our group;
*Climbed the Nut (several times) - nice to see upgrade facilities since our last visit
*Used the chairlift
*Bought fresh fish from Hurseys seafoods
*Watched Fairy Penguins at dusk within 200 meters from our cottages
*Took a guided tour of Woolnorth and Cape Grim
*Visited Dismal Swamp forest experience less than an hour from Stanley
*Visited the spectacular Dip Falls and Big Tree reserve about thirty minutes from Stanley.

As others have observed, there is no wi-fi at the cottages and the provision of an outside bbq would add value for groups.

We spent 4 nights at Pen of Pol and Pen Cottages. Very Spacious with 2 bedrooms and large L shaped sitting room /kitchen. Wood burning stove and recliner chairs ensured a comfortable stay. All amenities were in walking distance of the cottage. The only thing that was missing was wifi and even that was available free of charge at the Stanley Hotel.

The cottage is a well restored period and atmospheric cottage near the centre of Stanley and a short walk from the beach and Stanley nut. The house has several rooms on two levels and two cosy lounge rooms with fireplaces. The facilities and utensils were modern and functional (kitchen and laundry) however there are no basic kitchen condiments provided (e.g. oil, spices, sauces). The cottage is managed from the Stanley Hotel.

We booked Abbey's Cottage for a family wedding 7 adults fitted comfortably with plenty of space. It is a charming cottage and an easy point to leave from to go sightseeing in the North west of Tasmania. Really enjoyed our stay and would return again.

We stayed in 'Pol' cottage of 'Pol and Pen'. For two nights in Stanley and a family of five this was very comfortable, clean and good value. A highlight for us was its location - a short walk to the beautiful Godfrey Beach and easy walking access to the Nut and town centre.

The cottage is the other half of Pol and Pen Cottages - it's nicely set out and lounge and dining room very comfortable; the shower lovely and hot. The down sides probably would stop us booking here again unless something was done to get rid of the multiple starling families nesting in the cottage's ceiling ... starling babies are the most insistent noise-makers you can imagine, and these continue from dawn to dusk.
The other issue that could be addressed is the lack of warm doonas - the cottage's thin quilts and blankets are insufficient for those who don't like the electric blankets on all night.
Once these problems are dealt with I'm sure The Pen Cottage would be a good value place to stay.

Stanley is a must see destination, and Abbey's Cottages are a wonderful place to see it from. The Church cottage is spacious and roomy, with a very nice fit-out, and views over West Beach. There is a full kitchen, two TVs and a spotless spa bath.
The town looked just fantastic- freshly painted historic cottages, immaculate clean streets and lovely winter sun. The meals at the pub are superb and the locals very friendly.
Trip to Dip Falls was a nice excursion worth doing.
We'll be back.
