“Wonderful Escape”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2012

We stayed in the Gardener's Cottage and just loved it. The restoration is excellent, keeping the colonial feel and providing modern conveniences. Our hosts and staff could not have been more helpful. this was a perfect escape from city life - so peaceful and scenic.

Room Tip: There a number of choices of convict or farm cottages. I can only comment on the Gardeners Cottage...

We stayed here in July, in the coachman house, we had a late arrival at around 5pm, the reception was closed, we had to find the house on our own, but the direction was clear, and even comes with Chinese! Which is a nice touch!

The Coachman house is a quite big house with quite a long history since 1900 century!!! it's a 2 stories house, comes with 3 bed rooms (Room1: King bed, Room2: 2 small beds, Room3:King bed+ baby cot), 3 living rooms, a backyard. The house is quite big, and it was kept in good condition since it was over 100 years old!.

In the house, there are LOTS of heaters, and all furnitures are quite in vintage style, even the TV is a veryvery small one, but u wont need this in farm stay right?

The kitchen is well equipped! Stove, Oven, microwave, toaster (But no dishwasher) U can find every thing u need for cooking, and even plastic wrap! Also, it comes with Bread, Milk,Orange Juice, Butter, Fresh Jam, different biscult, cereal, etc, its all free to use!

After the comfy night stay, we met one of the host, she was walking her dog! She was nice! and afterwards it's a good idea to went to the farm to have a farm tour, u can feed goat, duck, rabbit, horse, etc, which is a quite nice farm experience, it's a good experience to spend times with kids!

Dear Oscar
Thank you very much for your review of Brickendon. We are very glad that you enjoyed your stay in the Coachmans Cottage which is the same cottage that Eason Chan your famous pop star stayed in! You will be pleased to know we are just replacing the tv's in all cottages with a larger digital ones but you were right about not really needing them, it is just great to enjoy the company of your good friends and family.
We look forward to seeing you again one day or meeting any of your friends that may travel to Tasmania.
Kind regards
Louise Archer

This is a great place to stay for families with kids and for animal lovers. We stayed in Sweetcorn cottage, very cozy, comfortable furniture, good beds. The cottage is quite big, there is enough space for a big family or two couples. We stayed here for two nights, the last two of our holiday before flying back, really wished we could stay longer!
When we arrived we were greeted by some chickens and their chicks, scratching around. Staff very warm and friendly, very helpful. Excellent kitchen with good supplies, even our breakfast was taken care of (fridge full of milk, jams, butter, orange juice, jars with muesli and several breakfast cereals, coffee and tea supplied as sugar, honey and peanut butter), gas bbq outside, but also enough tools (pots pans etc) inside to prepare a nice meal. Make sure you buy some fresh farm eggs (25c each)!
Of course we joined the feeding of the animals in the morning, kids absolutely loved it they could help feeding. Very interesting site, with lot of history. Beautiful gardens to stroll trough. Very peaceful in the evening, gorgeous views from veranda. Loved it!

Room Tip: We stayed in Sweetcorn cottage: two spacious bedrooms (first: double bed and one single bed; second...

This property is absolutely beautiful. For us, it is why we love Tasmania. A bit wild, rough, but beautiful. My boys LOVED the animals. We spent 2 days petting and running around after shep, ducks, chickens, and even the cat that liked to visit our cabin. Excellent views off our back porch too, and a nice little back yard. We stayed in the Corn cabin which is a 2 bedroom. As a mom there are just a couple things I wanted to note for other moms, although they weren't by any means huge problems. The walls in this cabin are not solid. Usually we get 2 bedrooms so my husband and I can stay up after we put them to bed and not have to worry about waking them. The walls here are basically boards with wide gaps, so light and sound go right through - so it's not actually really like a separate room. Also, the cabins are close together and have thin walls, so keep your fingers crossed you have quiet neighbors. We actually had to go out and tell our neighbors who were talking loudly outside, that they kept waking up the baby and to please be more quiet. I was embarrassed but nobody wants a sleepy baby to keep crying! The only other thing was that the water was slightly tinted, so i was a little unsure of giving it to the kids to drink. ? Could be normal? Expect cozy but slightly rustic and you'll be happy.

We recently spent a night in Pumpkin Cottage. After years of driving past Brickendon , my partner booked us in for a night here instead of staying in Launceston as we usually do when we need a bed in the north of the state.
We loved it. The cottage is cute, comfortable, and cosy- the view from the back verandah across the fields is stunning. We sat out there before dinner, just enjoying "being ". We were pleased that we had brought food to cook with us and didnt have to go back to Longford to eat.
We explored the farm - the buildings and surrounds.... and the next morning wandered round the gardens at the Main House. Wonderful. We are planning a return visit - two nights at least!

We have stayed 3 times already over the past 2 years - Pumpkin cottage once and Coachmans twice. We have loved every minute of it. We come to relax, not answer phones and take in the beauty that is provided for us. Louise is just wonderful and both cottages are very different to each other but we love them both. We found the cottages to be very clean and welcoming. We loved the farm and the huge rabbit. We will definitely return. Thank you for letting us share your home

We stayed in the Gardeners Cottage which was wonderful. However, pretty much everything else was closed at the farm. If you want to taste farm living this is perfect, but dont expect anything more than a nice cottage.

We love having guest during the winter months and we often find them curled up in front of the fire, just enjoying the atmoshphere.
We have our Heritage Gardens and Farm Village open however as we are a temperate climate, the gardens are not in bloom but we do have some amazing trees that are over 180 years old.
The Farm Village has a guide map so you can wander and explore the convict built buildings at your leisure and you will quite often have it to yourselves - what a change from a hectic city life !
We feed the farm animals each morning and guests are welcome to join in.
Reception during winter is located at the Main House where we can be contacted in person or by phone at any time.
