They say that when a restaurant has a great view, the food won't be much good. Not the case here, fortunately.
The view is superb - all tables can see out of the full-length windows to Great Oyster Bay and the granitic Hazards mountains beyond. Sunset on the pink granite is a sight to behold.
The menu isn't extensive, but features local and Tasmanian dishes and most dishes sounded delicious. I tried the mussel soup and fish-and-chips and both were great; especially the soup. My colleague had a salad and also fish and chips. The fish was local flathead and very tasty and the chips were crisp and cooked just right.
Wine list is pretty good - again, mostly locals, which was just fine.
The Edge does lack a bit of atmosphere; has more of a bistro feel than thefine restaurant which it is (this may be deliberate!), and I guess a more formal atmosphere wouldn't add much.
Prices are pretty much down the middle - about $170 for 2 courses for 2, bottle of good wine and a few beers to start.
Highly recommended if you are in Coles Bay area.
