“Good food AND great views”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

They say that when a restaurant has a great view, the food won't be much good. Not the case here, fortunately.

The view is superb - all tables can see out of the full-length windows to Great Oyster Bay and the granitic Hazards mountains beyond. Sunset on the pink granite is a sight to behold.

The menu isn't extensive, but features local and Tasmanian dishes and most dishes sounded delicious. I tried the mussel soup and fish-and-chips and both were great; especially the soup. My colleague had a salad and also fish and chips. The fish was local flathead and very tasty and the chips were crisp and cooked just right.

Wine list is pretty good - again, mostly locals, which was just fine.

The Edge does lack a bit of atmosphere; has more of a bistro feel than thefine restaurant which it is (this may be deliberate!), and I guess a more formal atmosphere wouldn't add much.

Prices are pretty much down the middle - about $170 for 2 courses for 2, bottle of good wine and a few beers to start.

Highly recommended if you are in Coles Bay area.

“Good food and great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 14, 2012

The design layout of the Edge Restaurant is different. The angled tables at the window overlooking the bay are very well done. This is a great location to see evening come on over the water and the owners have a clear pride in the place. The menu is small and features some good seafood options and mostly Tasmanian produce. We were staying Frechynet Lodge and chose the restaurant out of Lonely Planet. If you like a relaxed feel, great view and friendly service the place would be worth a visit.

“Fantastic view and almost great food.”

Better atmosphere than Freycinet lodge and great service. Mushroom risotto to die for. Wine offerings limited. Main course $30.

“good choice for the area”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011

What it lacks in atmosphere is well made up for with views and the food. Delicious meals and wine, good service but pleasantly surprised with the prices. Well done.
