“Great Experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 25, 2012 via mobile

We have just spent three nights at Saffire, Tasmania and thoroughly enjoyed our time. The lodge was very well managed, comfortable and welcoming. The rooms were spacious and well equipped with fabulous views. The food and wine were very well balanced, the sommelier really knew his stuff!
It might be worth thinking if there could be other activities to lay on from the hotel, either adventure or more hiking as we did feel the National Park a little limiting. This has not dampened our view of the Saffire in any way though.

Every possible superlative could be used to describe Saffire, it is such an amazing place. I have not felt so relaxed & indulged ever! From the second we were escorted from our car on arrival, to leaving the Saffire lounge at Hobart airport we were given VIP treatment without attitude. Every single staff member we met was lovely & went out of their way to make our stay special. Looking at the room photos before staying still does not prepare you for the delights it offers in terms of luxury, view, provisions & comfort.

The food is top quality & equal to the top restaurants we have dined in at home in Sydney. The 5 course degustation course with matched wines is an incredible taste journey like I've not experienced before.

This is easily the most expensive hotel we've ever stayed at, but for a special occasion I believe it is definitely worth saving for!

I sent my parents to Saffire on Freycinet Peninsula for 7 nights. Everything was superlative. When they rang me they spoke in hushed tones as they were just in awe. The people who work there I am told are so kind and so friendly. When my parents returned home they were on cloud nine and could not thank me enough. Every aspect of their experience was astonishing from what they told me. They loved the food, their suite, the people who worked there, the activities, the surrounding natural beauty. It is good to know they had an extraordinary time.

Havng stayed at many wonderful venues throughout the world we came with high expectations. We were not disappointed. Saffire was able to combine opulent luxury with a cosy and relaxed feel. It was wonderful that not only the staff but also the general manager Justin and executive chef Hugh took the time to informally mingle and chat. My wife took advantage of the Spa treatment and I had an great time quad bike riding. The dining experience was spectacular. My wife requires a gluten free diet and she was so impressed with the way she as catered for. We will most definitely revisit this memorable resort.

Just can't say enough about Saffire.
All the staff were beautiful to us. We felt so relaxed, welcomed, cared for and pampered beyond belief.
From the Spa, the breath taking views, great variety of activities and experiences, to the wonderful cuisine, all of it was just what we needed after our 6 day Overland Track walk.
Can't wait for the next visit.

As you can probably surmise from the gushing reviews, it's hard to translate the Saffire experience into words. Beyond the incomparably beautiful geography surrounding the resort, and the well-designed accomodations, the brilliance of the resort comes through its staff. The employees listen to you, and, as they get to know you, they are able to anticipate your needs. They will notice if you always like to share your food, and bring extra plates and silverware without asking. They will remember if you rave about a dish one night, to provide some suggestions on the following evening. They will locate stores where you can purchase the blankets found in the rooms, or where you might see Tasmanian devils near Hobart, or find more details about a wine you enjoyed over dinner.

The experience started at the airport in Hobart, when we started to realize what we were in for. Saffire has a lounge where you can freshen up (including a shower, if you've just come from abroad), and provides refreshments before you begin the 2-hour trip to Freycinet. We chose to drive ourselves to have a car available, so directions were provided, as well as a number of snacks for the road. The welcome on arrival was just as warm, and set the tone for the rest of our stay.

The food is stellar. Definitely take the dinner-inclusive package; although there are a couple of alternative places to eat in the area, you won't want to leave the property. Dinner can be as fancy as a 5-6 course tasting menu, or a 2-3 course meal you can put together from the evening menu. Breakfasts were hearty, and luckily for my waistline, lunches tended to be a bit lighter. Naturally, they are very accomodating though, and can tailor meals to suit your tastes. Make sure to go for a cocktail before dinner (perhaps the mixology course, as well, which is quite interactive),
and you can chat about the days activities with the staff, and even the GM is around to make sure your stay is going smoothly.

There are many activities to choose from, including hiking, archery, a vineyard visit, and the oyster farm. The last one is featured in the promotional pictures, and it is just as incredible to be there in person, eating oysters that were just taken from the water, enjoying them while standing in waders. With a glass of sparkling wine, of course. This is the Saffire way. Make sure to also get to the Wineglass Bay lookout, the view is spectacular. The guides will bring along a camera, and take some extra pictures, putting them on a flash drive for you. Really nice touch. We also decided to do one activity not affiliated with Saffire, the Quad Bike tour. Sam, who runs this, is awesome, and this turned out to be a very fun afternoon. Highly recommended.

You are also free to do nothing at all, and just take in the views. Pour yourself a glass of the wine in your room, and watch the clouds roll past the Hazards, across the bay from your couch. You'll see what I mean.

My favorite part of Saffire was the fact that, despite the luxurious surroundings, it is truly laid-back. They will joke that you can attend breakfast in your slippers and dinner in a sweatshirt, and this is not an exaggeration. The goal is for you to feel as comfortable here as possible. I'll warn you, though, it's easy to get used to this.

While I'll admit that the cost is potentially prohibitive, if you are looking for that special kind of place that you'll be raving about for years to come, this is it. And after you've been once, you'll spend hours trying to rationalize a return trip!

What an amazing holiday in June 4 nights of sheer luxury, the accommodation is beautiful, the food and wines sensational, the ambience and the environment is truly breathtaking. The staff are just delightful and can't do enough for you. We've stayed and travelled to many places and Saffire you simply are the best. We will be back. Also Saffire at Hobart airport just a brilliant touch, all class. Thank you
