“A treat for foodies in Devonport...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

Our first visit to this little restaurant located in King Street. First off great location with easy street parking available. Lovely welcome and friendly service throughout our time there. Nice atmosphere with funky decor reflecting mexican/central American theme. Quality drinks list and a menu with a difference. We ordered entree's and mains and the food was fantastic; quality cooking with a wonderful range of tastes and flavours evocative of the real thing. Value for money was excellent with all dishes delivering on quality at a very price. Service was attentive throughout and we felt very relaxed here making for a pleasant and positive experience. We look forward to future dining at La Lucha. In short this restaurant is a real gem and highly recommended.

This was my first visit to La Lucha and it was yum yum yum. The pulled lamb was mouth watering and the corn and pumpkin sides were amamzing too.
Staff were friendly and we had an absolute blast. Fishbowl went down a treat too!
Definately recommend :)

“Huge let down.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 14, 2014

What a disappointing experience. We dined here as a small group, on a quiet weekday. It was pretty obvious from early on that this place is either very unorganised, poorly managed, or they simply just don't really care. I quote our waitress "we don't have the salmon ceviche, but our fish of the day IS salmon." Go figure. They had run out of charred corn. Again, not busy, very early in the night - what Mexican restaurant doesn't have corn on offer??? They also "couldn't make coffee..." No explanation as to why they couldn't make coffee, and kind of frustrating when you can see the coffee grinder with ample coffee beans in it ready to go. This restaurant has a very limited menu, so to limit it further by not having options available, and furthermore not having replacement/alternative options is unacceptable. The food that we did receive was acceptable, but not outstanding. The experience as a whole was let down by the feeling of a poorly run establishment. Our waitress could certainly benefit from further training, and some guidance on customer service. Would I go back? Only if I had to. They have a very long way to go yet.

“Mouthwatering Mexican”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2014

This was our first visit to La Lucha. We were greeted on arrival by the owner and his lovely wife, Suzy, who were most welcoming. For entrees we chose the Salmon Ceviche which was delicious accompanied by pickled cucumber, radish and charred corn kernels. The other entree was Taco El Grande served with crispy pork, pineapple salsa, coriander sauce and iceberg. Both absolutely mouthwatering. For a mains we ordered the Pulled and rolled Lamb (which melted in my mouth) with garlic and honey puree, corn, onion with a carrot and jalapeno puree finished with sweet potato crisp. We also had Crispy Brussel Sprouts with Mexican seasoning. (I asked how they were cooked, but it is a trade secret). Dessert was Mexican Chocalate Fondant - white chocolate and lavender sabayon with burnt honey icecream and candied hazelnuts. We both have never tasted Mexican food like it before. The standard and quality was excellent and we will be returning again and again bringing family and friends along for the wonderful experience.
