“Excellent for Thomas fans!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Found the listing - unfortunately the spelling and address were not correct so I asked for a new listing!
It's Don River Railway
Forth Road
Located about 3 kms from Devonport.
Anyway, it's a fantastic museum, run by volunteers and needs to be mentioned as a place to stop and visit.
Our son is a mad Thomas fan and was totally fascinated by all the trains and engines here - steam, diesel included and that of the restorations being carried out in the workshops. Is that James? Thomas? Henrietta? Annie? Clarabelle? The trip on the restored train was gorgeous.
The museum had lots of stuff including levers that you could touch and move making it more exciting.
Well done to the volunteers for keeping it going. We hope more people continue to enjoy your work as much as you do.

“Not to be missed by railway buffs!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

Dropped in to the Don River Railway when on a recent holiday to Tasmania. Had hoped for a steam train ride to bring back old memories, but the steam engine was in for repair. Nevertheless, the volunteers were most obliging and were very keen to show us through the museum and workshops where many engines and all types of rail carriages were being repaired and restored. The place was absolutely amazing! It was huge! Easily spent a few hours there for a small cost which included a train ride from the Museum to Coles Beach and back, even though we were the only two passengers. In the museum itself there were bits of unusual railway memorabilia collected from many parts of Tasmania. Altogether, very interesting and a credit to the volunteers working there. Highly recommend a visit when in that neck of the woods. Would suit families very well.
