“Service and staff great! Beds are hard!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 20, 2012

We went on the ship 11/4/12 and had a great experience...the food wasn't great but we didn't expect it to be. The bed was hard and the ONE pillow just wasn't enough!!! But that was the only bad thing i can say abut the trip. We didnt take our car, so had to manage our luggage ourselves, the girl at the desk at Devonport, Jacqueline,...(I hope that is right spelling) was so nice helpful and noticed after we had boarded the ship that my husband had left his jumper behind on the seat. She offered to get it to the percers desk before we sailed, but it didnt make it. TT lines then posted the jumper to us at no cost to us! I am so greatful to them...and if they added more pillows and comfier bunks we might go again.....there were 3 of us in a 4 berth room. The staff made it a memorable trip for us..not the ship itself!

“What a surprise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2012

I expected some kind a 1970s rundown icky experience but to my everlasting gratefulness is was like a cruise ship. The crossing was smooth and the cabin generous and clean. Can't wait to go again!

“Don't eat on board - it's floating hospital food.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2012 via mobile

We have travelled twice with motorbikes and it makes sense. But the wait seems to get longer, the food is atrocious and the wine list and general amenities are pretty average. Cabin clean though, and apart from price, overnight is an ok way to get there.

No real competition anymore so what do you expect. Eat at Port Melbourne and take something to drink in your room, or have low expectations about the bar.

“Need to get their act together”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2012

The older boat in service several years ago was fantastic. We always had the double bed and copied the TV advertisement of holding hands and falling back onto it. Ah, what a dreamer. Gone are those days. These boats are about as good as barges. The only difference is they have sleeping accommodation. The agonising wait at Port Melbourne whilst the car is searched (under hood and in boot) is a misery. If the security people were a little friendlier it might help and I'm sure they are wonderful people really but once they put the uniform on their personalities change. We arrived one of the first, were sherpherded into a queue with caravans and vans and got on the boat last. Arriving at Devonport we were last off only to wait again in a queue to be searched for banned food items (eg fruit, veg, fish etc etc). Over two days the queuing took about 4 hours and then of course there was the return journey.... Food and beverage on the boat is not cheap and it's not good. We have learned our past lessons and now take sandwiches but not alcohol (not allowed on the boat). Bar prices are expensive - $7 for a bottle of beer. Just as well one of us has soft drinks.
Initially, the cabins are like igloos because for some reason they always put the airconditioning on but the room does have a heater which is just as well because a single doona is the only bedding you'll get and this tends to fall off with the sway of the boat in a storm (Melb-Devonport was an example). One good thing though, hardly anyone seems to shower at 5.30am so you'll get lots of lovely hot water but remember to bring your toiletries and a hairdryer otherwise you'll be trying to wash with a miserable piece of soap (provided).
For your entertainment there is a cinema. I think this is free. The movies are dated but I guess if you haven't booked into a cabin and have to rely on the recliner chairs you might kill some time watching a film. The on board shop provides basic items and quite a bit of tourist stuff but like an earlier reviewer stated it's expensive. I don't think I will ever go on this boat again. The thrill of being at sea somehow deserts you when you have to wake up at 5am and wonder how long it will be before you can get into a room at your next destination.

“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2012

We had a deluxe cabin with large windows right at the front of the ship which was great. We dined at the restaurant and enjoyed delicious Tasmania produce.
