“only one night”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

as soon as check in, I was very disappointed with the place. first timers to Tasmania and had heard about cradle mountain chateau being a very high star accommodation. there were four adults, myself and husband and grown daughter and husbands mother. we were put in a ordinary queen suite (that is what it was called),A queen bed single bed and foldable bed squeezed in. I had to ask for towels soap coffee and extra cup. This one night had been booked for at least 4 months in advance. the balcony was six inches off the ground and maybe 18 inches wide by 3 feet long. Looked out to the car park. buffet meal was overpriced. the staff were helpful with any queries though.

Room Tip: if more than a couple try for the self contained cabins

A really special place to stay. Booked in a spa room with bush views and a small balcony. We spent two nights and enjoyed every relaxed minute. Wild life aplenty observed in the surrounds. Close to the National Park with access to walks to suit all abilities. Food was expensive. Dining in the Restaurant proved to be much better than the Bistro for both food and atmosphere. .

Beautiful place, very quiet, warm fires in cold weather, very comfortable rooms, great price on booking. com. Buffet meal was nice but a little expensive for buffet. I would highly recommend this place to stay though. Only 1 km to visitors centre.

There is very limited accomodation options at Cradle Mountain. We wanted 4 star type hotel accomodation. The hotel is obviously a top pick for Bus tours, so the buffet was popular but not our style. The common areas had a barn like feel. We skipped breakfast as the buffet was the only option and not that appealing given the price. The al a carte resturant had limited opening hours so you had to make sure you booked to get in but the food was good and warmed the heart at the end of a solid days walking. Service was friendly but inexperienced.
The rooms were comfortable without being outstanding, bathroom fittings dated, but still quite functional. Above all well insulated against the overnight storms - heavy rain and snow in October! The room heaters are good but a bit tricky to work out if you aren't familiar with such devices - ie live in sunny WA.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from reception looking out over the bush.

Stayed 3 nights in Nov 2013. Average temperature was 12 deg C & rained each day. Close to Cradle Mountain Information Centre (where you catch a shuttle to access the many walks). Chateau was comfortable with communal lounges with log fires which were regularly refuelled. Rooms clean, heating good although had to use small fan to circulate some air. Food in Chateau was overpriced with few options. Best option was toasted sandwiches in room service. Bottle of wine in room was $38! No shop for snacks or other supplies. Went to Peppers for morning tea which was really lovely. Also travelled 60kms for beautiful breakfast at Sheffield, well worth it. Wilderness gallery ok but $3.50 for entry!? Overall a relaxing stay & really enjoyed walking the Dove Lake Circuit. Issues with food was the only downer.

Room Tip: Byo wine & snacks & other essentials. No body lotion supplied so byo. Ask for rooms not faci...

This is one of the few accommodation options close to the Cradle Mountain National park. Location is fantastic! Only a 5 min drive to the visitor centre where you purchase entry into the park. Beautiful setting, we even saw a wombat crossing the road right outside the hotel.

The hotel is a bit over priced to be honest, however you pay the premium for the location. We stayed in a deluxe double room with jetted tub. The jetted tub was well used after a day of hiking.

We had the buffet dinner for $38 which was quite expensive in my opinion, but there was no other cheaper dinner options. The food wasn't too bad.

They also have free wifi which is very convenient as there is no 3G service in rural Tasmania if you're not on Telstra. Overall positive experience.

Room Tip: Definitely spend the little extra and get a room with a tub! You'll appreciate it after a day of...

We stayed for a night and had dinner and breakfast here. Also did mcdermmotts night wildlife spotting your which is highly recommended as it was excellent.
The hotel itself had a beautiful location, we had a spa room which had a little balcony that opened up into bush land and we had wallabies at our window. Room was comfortable and we slept well.
Good at the grey gum restaurant was nice and staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast buffet in Quolls was also nice, though we would have liked more of a cold selection. It was an excellent location. We would stay again.
