“Best spot I have stayed!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2013 via mobile

My partner and I stayed on the 8th of Feb, and fell in love! It was a great location and the staff were really friendly! I wish we could have stayed longer! As we rarely drink wine, the lovely bartender, Kristy gave us a great recommendation, and she was very polite and lovely. Dinner was also amazing! We were greeted at the door by a young German fellow, who was a great laugh and Zack was also helpful towards us. We are definitely coming back!!!

Clean rooms, good value food, friendly staff. Beds could have been slightly more comfortable. Great location for cradle mountain!
Photo gallery and merchandise were great as it was interesting and very well priced.

We stayed three nights in summer in a Wilderness view room - outlook over bushy hillside - worth paying extra for this side of the hotel, if you can. Plenty of staff on hand at front desk and in the restaurant. Our change of plans was accommodated efficiently. The buffet for breakfast and dinner was very fresh, tasty, and good quality. The chateau has its own bush walk where wombats, wallabies, echidnas, and local birds can be enjoyed. Great little gift shop. Highly recommended for a relaxing break.

Room Tip: Opt for the Wilderness view room (outlook over bushy hillside) if you can.

This was my second time at the Chateau and, like my first visit, I was very impressed at the level of service and comfort offered, in such a remote area.

The kind staff of the hotel, upgrated our 'standard' rooms to 'split level king spa', at no extra cost, (thank you very much for that), a level of accommodation that is absolutely superb.

The facilities of the Chateau are great, including , very convenient parking with many entrances, so one can have their car very close to their room, a great bar and restaurant with reasonable prices and excellent menu, as well as, a couple of libraries in front of open fire places, a great way to read a book or catch up on ones Emails.

By the way, there's a 'Wi Fi' network available at no cost, very handy as the cellular network coverage up there is almost, non existent.

Needless to say, the rooms were spotlessly clean and tidy. Very comfortable beds complete a great experience, in the middle of one of Tasmania's most attractive locations!

What else would one ask for?

Room Tip: Take advantage of the free pool table in restaurant area, in front of an open fire on...

Beautiful rooms, clean. You see people cleaning all the time. Lunch was good. Dinner great, but that's what you aspect for the money. Love the fact that they have almost only Tasmanian wines.
Didn't understand why breakfast was not included with the room since they were so expensive. Don't like the idea that hotels like this are The only way to spend a few days near Cradle Mountain park.

The Cradle Mountain Lake St Clair National Park is a must visit destination in Tasmania. This lodging is 20 minutes uphill walk from the Cradle Mountain National Park Visitors Centre. There are closer ones, but when we tried to book in August 2012 for January 2013, this was the only one available and we had to pay quite a high price. The room was comfortable, with a queen bed and a single bed, with tea and coffee making facilities and wine glasses provided. The fires in the libraries/public areas are a welcoming feature. The restaurant offers a good buffet. Instead of spending time on the tiger exhibition and in the Wilderness Gallery (both closed in the evenings) we spent our day time walking in the National Park.

We have stayed here a few times over the years, so knew what to expect. The hotel is on the old fashioned side, but the King Spa rooms are quite pleasant in a dark timber kind of way. As other reviewers have said, book a room facing the wilderness and avoid the car park view if you can... The room had nice pictures of local fauna and the mountain. We had 2 TVs - one was a flat screen with a DVD player (but the previous guest must have unplugged it all - had not been checked for us, so we had a put it all together ourselves); the other was an old fashioned large one - we wish they had just removed it as it blocked our space in the lower area. The room has a small balcony overlooking the wilderness.

We paid $160 for a night which was OK value - I would not want to pay much more than this. The hotel also has a nasty credit card surcharge - so over these - please just build these into the rates you quote.

We ate at the buffet which we enjoyed and was good value. Service is patchy - some staff pleasant and others really look over it.

The next morning, we went over to see the Wilderness Gallery - on previous stays, this was free for in-house guests. But now the rules had changed - there was a "cover charge" of $5 per person. This was only a $2 discount... We did not bother - what a rip-off; we had spent over $245 at the hotel on a debit card to avoid their silly surcharge and now they wanted more money from us!! Left a nasty taste after an overall pleasant stay...

Room Tip: Only book a wilderness view - otherwise you'll just see the carpark!
