“Very cosy. Great for family time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 12, 2013

We were very pleasantly pleased with our cottage for the price. Nestled in the woods it was cosy, clean and warm on the cold May nights.
The kitchen is well appointed and has everything you need for a few nights and while the wall to wall pine cladding may be a bit in your face at first, it is sustainable, natural and warm.
Our bathroom was enormous and while a tad dated, it was absolutely fine.
This would be a perfect place to take children for a week in the Summer or for a couple to enjoy by the fire in the winter.
The hosts were friendly and helpful.
For dinner, the Cradle Mountain lodge offers a great local menu if you can'r be bothered washing up.

Stayed for one night, in Tolepe cabin. Once we got there it was heavily snowing but they were cleaning the pathway regularly. Very friendly and helpful reception. The cabin felt very homely, cosy, and warm... it was hidden behind snowy bushes with a beautiful little walk from our carpark to cabin which made it feel private and safe. There is a big window in the toilet and shower with a view to the snowy jungle. The room was so nice that we changed our plans and stayed in to enjoy every minute we had there.
Two things to take note of. You will need to wash your own dishes and keep clean so won't suit super lazy people. If you are fussed about what movies are available in the room, take your DVDs with you.

We arrived at Cradle Mountains Highlanders and our two children were enthralled to see the place covered in snow. We checked in at reception and were directed to Stringybark cottage. We drove the 50m or so to the cottage and found a snow covered, story-book log cottage - beautiful! The wood fire was glowing warm and red, and the whole place was warm and cosy! The inside of the cottage, as well as the furniture, was made with different Tassie woods, which really added character! As well as the wood heater, there were electric wall heaters in the two bedrooms and electric blankets on the beds. Instead of venturing out into the cold night, I would recommend bringing all your supplies and cooking dinner in the cabin - and enjoy it with a glass of red wine! The pademelons on the front veranda were very tame - and it was hard to resist the temptation to feed them! Having only visited the area in summer before, we wanted to see what it was like in winter. We drove to Dove Lake the next morning. This was a very scary drive as there was a lot of snow and the road ws one way in parts! On the way back from Dove Lake, we managed to get two wheels onto ice on the side of the road - and hence got stuck! Luckily there were three cars behind us, and the occupants got out and helped push the car back on to the main part of the road (THANK YOU SO MUCH!) The kids say it was their favourite place to stay in Tassie.

Room Tip: Stringybark Cottage is beautiful. It has a queen (?) bed in one bedroom and a double bed as well as...

What a fantastic place to stay! Very spacious cottages with full kitchen, spa bathroom, TV, fireplace and comfy beds. The owner was an absolute delight to talk to and offered great advice on travelling in Tassie. She was also quite a fun character. The cottages are set in beautiful bush land and very close to Cradle Mtn. Much better than our stay a Peppers - and it's so much cheaper here! Great value, great accommodation, very happy!

Stayed in the Snow Gum Cabin for one night in June, and it was fantastic. Felt like you were in the wilderness by yourselves yet other cabins were close by. Wood fire was roaring when we arrived and was great to have a little view of Cradle Mountain from the bedroom and the balcony. Saw plenty of wildlife during our one night stay which was a bonus! The heated tiles and large spa bath in the bathroom were lovely and the bed was good. Take advantage of the "hearty Breakfast" which is great value for money with enough food for breakfast and lunch!

The only minor thing that was annoying was that the shower was very temperamental, going cold for a few seconds, every 25 seconds or so.

Wish we could of stayed longer!

Room Tip: Snow Gum cabin is the most expensive, but well worth it just for the heated bathroom tiles!

Our family our four we absolutely delighted with our huge cabin. We were so happy to stay in a place where we felt as if we were alone in the wilderness yet only a few metres away from reception with access to reasonable wine and free DVDs for the kids. It was freezing outside but we were very toasty with our gas heater (which looks like a log fire). The bathroom was freezing, so cold that my shampoo froze. But that in itself was hilarious as we all braved running in for our evening shower. The kitchen was well equipped and the beds warm and comfy. The highlight for our children were the pademelons which regularly came up to us. So cute! We also had a very cheeky possum who bites, so watch out. Lovely, wonderful place. We will always treasure our stay at Highlanders Cottages.

We were two couples and stayed in Wombat and Buttongrass cabins. We booked based on previous reviews and posted photos. We were delighted to find the cabins exactly as described - really cute; much more spacious and private than an hotel room; big, comfy bed; fully equipped kitchen and lovely wood fires to keep them cosy. For the wildlife lovers Wombat verandah was visited by a large possum on our first evening.
