“Loved it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2013

My husband and I stayed here for one night in Febuary 2013 in a spa suite/cabin. We got a good deal on Wotif which included full buffet breakfast, home made cookies on arrival, canapes/port and bed turn down with chocolates. I agree with some people that the spa cabins dont look like much on the outside but inside they have a large comfy bed, a big modern bathroom with a great spa and I loved the log fire which was all set up for us and ready to go. Reception staff were professional and friendly and recommended some smaller walks for us as I was 35 weeks pregnant. The walks were beautiful, we saw wombats and wallabies with babies, I loved it. We had lunch at the Tavern which was nice and quite well priced, we also had dinner at the restaurant. The staff here were exceptional and the food delicious - especially the dessert. The next morning we enjoyed our breakfast with plenty to choose from. We can't wait to return in Winter when the baby is born to do some of the longer walks, Peppers is situated in such beautiful surrounds.

Arriving here after an unfortunate experience at Freycinet Lodge and a long although very pretty drive, we needed a good experience. The staff here were great from the first moment of check in, the cabins first rate, the location beautiful and good advice about local walks and how to make the most of our stay. The food and service in the restaurant were faultless, we are staying over another night to do some walks and already looking forward to another meal in the restaurant. Recommended.

My husband and I stayed at the lodge a couple of nights for my birthday and had a lovely time. We booked a pencil cabin and were very surprisingly pleased with the aspect of the cabin after we had read all the reviews. The cabin's interior was freshly painted and modern, with a nice deck and direct views on the pond. The only low side would be the bathrooms that look oldish even if repainted. The lodge is a beautiful wooden building inside and outside that feels cosy. We had very nice meals at the restaurant for dinner and breakfast - would recommend eating there even though dinners are a bit pricy it's worth trying. The tavern was nice too with simple but tasty meals. We were also delighted with service and staff, everything is made to make your stay enjoyable. On our trip we also visited Devils @ cradle and loved the close up experience with tasmanian devils and quolls at feeding times. So we would definitely return, the location is perfect and it feels like a treat.

We had a magical stay. Really enjoyed the ambiance of the surroundings and the family loved the "enchanted walk" around the property in the snow.
We dined in both the tavern and the restaurant and enjoyed our meal and the service that we recieved.
I had a massage in the day spa and would thoroughly recommend the use of this facility, as the view and the experience is not to be missed!
We stayed in the Pencil Pine cabin and though a little on the small side for a family of four with the youngest on a trundle bed we were happy with the price/quality ratio, as we got a package through Wotif that included breakfast & accommodation for less than $300 a night.
My only complaint would be that the snow had piled out the front of our cabin and we had to park away from our allocated car spot. The mounds of dirty snow made it difficult to access the stairs to our cabin and was quite dangerous for the boys though I think they actually enjoyed the challenge of climbing over it to access the door though I wasn't quite so thrilled!!! Lucky I had that massage booked.........

My partner and I had a lovely time during our 2 night stay at the lodge.

The staff were extremely helpful during our stay and always went out of their way to make sure we were well informed and taken care of.

We stayed in a Spa Cabin and had no complaints about the room. The bed was perhaps a little on the hard side, but nothing to get too worked up over.
The log fire came in very handy in the evening and mornings. Despite being Summer, the area was still pretty chilly!

We dined at the Tavern and Highlands restaurants and enjoyed both of them. The Tavern serves really large portions, so make sure you are extra hungry before having a meal here.
We were really impressed at the quality of food served in the Highlands restaurants and would highly recommend you dine there at least one night during your stay. It is more expensive than the Tavern, but the quality of food is really spectacular.

We also checked out the wine and cheese tasting – it’s probably not the best activity for a wine connoisseur, but if you enjoy the occasional glass and don’t take wine too seriously, than I think it’s a worthwhile thing to do.

One note in regards to cost – if you are going to complain about the cost of the lodge, just don’t go. They charge what they do because of convenience. They are the closest accommodation to the national park that has a restaurant on site, making it easy for short term visitors.
I’ve seen quite a few reviews in regards to the heightened cost, but I think guests need to be most realistic about their expectations and understand why the costs are what they are. Be sensible and book closer to the time to save on cost! Visiting the lodge isn’t about the lodge itself, it’s about what surrounds it. Begins surrounded by such beautiful landscape and an abundance of native wildlife is priceless. There aren’t that many places on earth that get much better.

P.S. Make sure you check out the local Devil’s@Cradle nigh time feeding tours!

Overall we felt cheated.
We paid $400 for one night in a Pencil Pine room over Australia Day long weekend. Obviously I would expect to over-pay on such an occasion - but this was excessive
1) The bathroom is old and dated. No bath, ugly old tiles, old chipped shower knobs etc, shower leaked.
2) Room was completely fine, more recently updated than the bathroom but the bed is hard and uncomfortable
3) The main lodge areas are tired and unexciting - pictures look far better than the real thing.

For $150 I would have felt, not overwhelmingly excited, but satisfied.

The good bits are:
1) Close location to the National Park - which is divine.
2) Lots of wildlife around
3) Fireplace in the room.

This place is a massive tourist trap.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback on your recent stay, I am sorry you were disappointed with some aspects of your stay.

If you could contact me on leigh.reid@peppers.com.au to advise me what cabin number you were in so we can address the minor maintenance issues that you have mentioned I would appreciate it.

I highly recommend you return during Winter when you may find our pricing more to your liking.

I apologize for any disappointment you experienced during your stay.

Regards
Leigh Reid
