“A wonderful experience in so many ways....”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2013

Nant is - well, what can I say! - its truly enchanting! This is the sort of place that reminds you about how good it is to be alive! The setting is beautiful, the buildings charming, the food and service amazing. With a group of friends we have made it our own little tradition to visit Nant for a weekend - to partake in one of their special whisky dinner events (generally held monthly) and soak up the atmosphere, drink their great coffee and yes, enjoy their whisky. Every meal we've had at Nant has been exquisite! The tour of the distillery is really interesting, as is the history of the mill and the property. When available, we have stayed in the onsite accommodation which is ideal. When already booked, we have stayed in Bothwell itself in a self-contained cottage recommended by Nant. Bothwell features a golf museum run by volunteers and the golf course is an experience not to be missed - few people seem to realise its Australia's oldest golf course (some statistics claim its the oldest in the southern hemisphere!!)
We all declare Nant one of those places where you not only have a good time, but, on leaving, feel reminded that your life is definitely privileged!!!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a beautiful review. As much as we would love to take credit for the beauty of the estate and our heritage listed buildings, we can only take credit for the preservation of both! They are very much a part of our story and we aim to conserve the beauty character and enchantment they contribute to Nant long into the future. We take great pride in the quality of the food we serve at our Atrium restaurant, ensuring that we do justice to the beautiful Tasmanian produce we have at hand. Thank you for your loyalty, it is always lovely to see faces returning. We are glad you enjoy the charm and history of Bothwell itself also.

“Lunch a pretentious ripoff”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2013

We had a very interesting and informative tour of the premises at Nant Distillery which is in the beautiful Bothwell countryside. The whiskey tasting was fun and educational. However all in our party of 14 were really unimpressed with the lunches served. The soup was unavailable, the cheese plate did not have all items as listed on the menu and fennel was not added to another dish as per the menu. In every case when questioned the staff member said that they had run out. We were not told of any of these shortages, apart from the onion soup, before the dishes had been served and noted by our party.. No discount on the inflated prices was given. If this is how potential investors are treated, this beautiful property will not be there for long.

Thank you for taking the time to review Nant Distillery.

My apologies that you found the lunch to be 'pretentious' and a 'rip off'. Week days at our distillery throughout the off season are staffed by one person due to the quieter nature of the industry at this time of year, however, if you had booked for a party of 14 for lunch we would have ensured to have enough staff on site to cater for this size of party. This is the reason your tour guide was the head distiller so my staff member could organise your lunch.

Having informed you our soup was no longer on the menu the member of staff in question did everything in her power to accommodate your group accordingly. The only thing missing that you were not informed of was a piece of quince that was not on the cheese board and in future we will ensure customers are informed of this or price rectified accordingly. The fennel was an oversight and was rectified as soon as it was mentioned.

Again, apologies you found the visit unsatisfactory. We do take bookings, we also send menus out for pre-orders so larger groups do not have a wait when they arrive. Due to always using fresh, local, Tasmanian produce there are times when we are unable to source something and will not compromise on the quality of our menu to replace it with a lesser product.

All feedback is appreciated, I'm glad you enjoyed the whisky, and I hope the rest of your group enjoy the bottles they purchased. We do our upmost to look after everyone, from potential investors to passers by who just stop in for a coffee, i feel we did everything in our power to cater for you but your comments have been taken on board.

Thank you.

“Relaxing way to spend the day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

Nant Distillery is an easy hours drive from Hobart through very scenic Tasmanian countryside. Tours are done twice a day at 11am and 1pm but it's all very relaxed so if you arrive outside those times the staff can still show you through. You'll get to see the whole process and gain an appreciation of whiskey making.

You then get to sample a number of whiskeys - all for $15 while sitting in the glass atrium soaking up the sunshine. Such a nice way to spend some time. Coffee, tea, and wine are also available for non-whiskey drinkers.

Highly recommend for a visit. Thank you to Imogen who indulged us with many tastings.

“A real find!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013 via mobile

The drive to Bothwell is stunning with beautiful, sweeping scenery. We were lucky to have a beautiful day, albeit incredibly windy. The Nant distillery buildings lie in the most gorgeous setting - picture "Mill on the Floss" - absolutely magical. Lunch was very good, lovely setting and excellent service. Whisky tasting after lunch was a very enjoyable experience. Fun visit.
