“Well worth a visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 30, 2013 via mobile

A great insight into mining in beaconsield. Interesting history. Interactive. Also a display about the recent mining disaster. Well presented and layed out, helpful staff. Lots of old mining equipment and interesting facts. We enjoyed our visit very much.

We didn't make it during the hours of operation. however, we were able to walk the ground and read the information planks. My son love the equipment and stories.

“Great historical site.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 25, 2013

This is a great venue for the family and a great way to learn about the history of mining in Beaconsfield especially for more recent events. Really enjoyed the tour of the museum. There is lots to see and do and it is very interactive for kids.

“Good for the whole family.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

I initially thought my two small children (7 & 5) would be bored at this location, boy was I wrong. They have designed it to accommodate children and adults. Kids will be kept busy trying to locate strategically placed Aust animals throught the museum, with a list and pencil to cross off, prize at the end is a piece gold from Beaconsfield mine (Not real gold but did come from the mine and kids loved it). Takes a few hours to get through it, I found it really interesting and of course was fascinated to see the actual location of the mine disaster. The town is tiny but nice. Check out the old home, school and shop across the road in the park, they are from the early 1900's, very interesting. Well worth the trip, we all loved it.

“eye opening, interactive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 9, 2013

Stopped here on our way to beauty point. Didnt look big from the outside but once inside WOW!!It is deceptively big and you will need an hour or so to get around.Really interesting with so many things to touch and to interact with kids will love it whistles to toot, machines to turn, buttons to push, making the water wheel turn was a highlight. The 3D presentation was very well done. The upstairs display on life in beaconsfield was very interesting. I found the section on the mine collapse was great and so informative. We found ourselves spending a lot of time reading all the information available about things that weren't in the news reports of the day. The reconstruction of the space the miners were trapped in gave you a feeling of the claustrophobic conditions they must have endured. This is an excellent attraction and worth visiting.
