Had a romantic dinner on Sunday, and the experience was just perfection. Mary-Jane was a great host, and knew exactly when to engage with us. She didn't hover, but our drinks were always topped up and there was nothing we ever had to ask for. The wine list was very comprehensive, and Mary-Jane was great in offering pairings with our food.
We noticed another table having the seafood tasting plate for two and couldn't resist. The tasting plate featured scallops, prawns and soft shell crab. The produce was fresh and the sauces were just incredible. Corrine (the chef) has a great repertoire and there were touches of Middle Eastern and Asian influences - Definitely something I wasn't expecting in the Blue Mountains, yet most of the produce was sourced locally.
For mains we had the pork and peanut curry and the duck. Both dishes suited the weather perfectly and I could see why the duck is a signature dish. It was a relief to see main size portions, and a meal that came complete with sides. Corinne's timing was impeccable, I have had many a meal where we are waiting for food, but it felt like they worked around us. You can tell that this is no accident and it is years of experience.
We couldn't resist dessert and opted for profiteroles and the cheese platter. These were the best profiteroles I have ever had, they didn't taste frozen, stale or reheated (sadly this is common). The cream was warmed to perfection and the dark chocolate sauce complimented completely. The Janai goats cheese was something but we thoroughly enjoyed it, the goats cheese was light and we got to sample 5 different flavours.
Overall - I am (normally) not one to repeat myself, but I honestly can't think of a better word than perfect. There was absolutely nothing to fault about this restaurant, the food is incredible, the service is friendly and polished, the restaurant is stunning and the price is reasonable. This is one of the most incredible meals and experiences I have ever had and I can't wait to return.
