A small ‘resort’ that has recently renovated rooms but older style facilities. It is located on the Katoomba end of Blackheath, (you should turn into Evans Lookout Rd) one block in from the highway. This makes it quieter than many other accommodation choices in the area that are often located on the highway. It is a short drive from the Blackheath shops and about 10 km from Katoomba.
The room has a queen size bed (comfortable), a table with chairs, small fridge, a 48cm TV with cable and DVD player, wardrobe and reverse cycle AC. The bathroom contained a shower and hand soap, shaving cream, body lotion, shampoo, conditioner and shower gel wall dispensers. Bars of soap are available from Reception. There is both ground level and 1st floor accommodation.
The grounds include an indoor heated pool and uncomfortable acrylic/fibreglass type spa (that didn’t bubble properly and was a bit cool). If you want to use them during the cooler months you might want to ask for a room as nearby as possible, as the walk from the room and back can get very cold as it is through the garden. It was very clean and pool towels are provided.
There was an old cement tennis court that is OK for some non-serious tennis and an old putting green. There should also be a golf driving cage that I didn’t notice and a sauna that I didn’t find.
The resort also has a fun games room with pool table, juke box, pinball machine and 4 other video games that would be great on a rainy day for any kids or kids at heart. The best part is that they are free to use for guests.
There is also a restaurant (used mainly for breakfast), a bar and a large comfortable lounge area with a fireplace, piano and limited games to use off from Reception. DVDs are also available for rent at Reception.
Blackheath golf course is right across the road and appears to be a well maintained, picturesque course (Par 69). I heard several guests that had walked through parts of it without playing golf commenting on its charm and beauty.
I found the Redleaf Resort a comfortable place to stay and fairly good for the price on a Friday and Saturday night in the Blue Mountains area. The staff are helpful and friendly. While it is not a resort in the true sense of the word, they are definitely trying to provide guests with a range of facilities. It would be better if the recreational facilities (ie. spa, tennis & mini golf) were updated/renovated but even taking this into account, I would stay there again. The resort has special golf and breakfast packages available.
