“Great fun but not for the fussy”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2012

We had a great weekend with friends at the hotel. We were well looked after in room 4 (shielded from the road noise by the front room next to us). The room had been renoavted and was warm and comfy. We had free reign of both lounge rooms and they allowed us to build a fire and bought us wine glasses by the fire to have with our own bought food and wine. Very nice staff. We had lots of fun but if you are a fussy person probably not the hotel for you as its old and kooky. Great fun for a winter weekend with friends...

Room Tip: Room 4 was good. The font rooms would be super noisy i imagine due to the trucks that rumble past al...

We stayed in the room at the front of building. Bed very comfortable. Road noise a little bit of a problem. I think we got a less desirable room because we had a special deal.

The bathroom was very very small though with the toilet practically in the shower. Not very good for bigger people.

We ate in the restaurant attached to the hotel. The food was ok but relatively pricey.

Guest lounges very well appointed. Breakfast selections excellent. Homemade cookies put out for afternoon tea, yum.

Very clean, friendly welcome. Overall we enjoyed staying here and would come again if the price was right!

Had 2 nights at St Mounts on a special deal and my partner and I thought it lovely. Our room was at the back and was opulently decorated and felt really special, and rather romantic, which was only added to by a complimentary bottle of wine! The place itself was charming and we loved the lounge with it's open fire. Breakfast was a good continental selection and although we're late risers there was someone topping up supplies on both mornings. We had a meal in the restaurant one night which we very much enjoyed. The owner recommended the steaks and although we opted or pasta, which was hearty and warming, the steaks coming past looked amazing. I do think some of the front rooms could be noisy due to traffic, it's a busy road, but we had a really great time and would happily go back.

My husband and I travel frequently and when not in Australia, we enjoy weekends away within 3 hours drive from Sydney. A friend organised a weekend away for 4 couples and chose the St Mounts cottage for a Saturday night. It was the second worst accommodation experience of my life. The cottage was freezing at night and although the open fire in the loungeroom was cosy, our bed was directly under a window and the sheets felt wet because they were so cold. There were no electric blankets. Another couple stripped the only electric blanket they could find off a single bed but it failed to work. The dining table looked lavish. However it was very unstable and we were afraid to use it.

There were only plastic glasses from which to drink. However, we were given glassware from the restaurant when they were requested. One would expect for a cost of approx $600 for the night, we would have been at least provided with milk for a morning cuppa but not so.
The atmosphere and the food in the restaurant was very good and the staff, attentive. This was the highlight. I don't know what the rest of the guesthouse is like but the cottage was in desparate need of an upgrade with a single dated bathroom and stained carpets. It would be good to start with electric blankets in winter so guests are not kept awake all night with the cold.

Room Tip: Ask if there are electric blankets for a winter's stay.

After being given a weekend away at St Mounts for a Christmas gift by our children, I was ecstatic, I had always thought what a beautiful looking Hotel. Initially we could not book in to the date we had wanted to as the Hotel was booked out, the gentleman on the phone was very helpful - even though our gift voucher had an expiry date, he still honoured it for us. So we set off for our much awaited weekend away. On arrival we were greeted by a very unhappy chef who took us down stairs to register, he asked what bottle of free wine we wanted and then showed us our room and pointed out the Lounge area that was also where we could have our complimentary breakfast.

Our room was a cosy little room at the very front of the hotel, it was in need of repair with cracked walls and picture railings coming away from the wall as well as a tiny en-suite being extremely small and having moving tiles on the floor that also did not drain. The bed was comfortable but the fact that it did not have a top sheet was very off putting although it was very warm.

The room was so noisy I slept for about three hours all night, Derek slept for a few hours more. We twice went to go out to breakfast but it was busy and some of the guest's just kept eating, a fault that is not St Mounts - but should be monitored for future guests.

At this point we opted to pay the $3.00 for our bottle of water have breakfast elsewhere and spend the next night in our own bed, luckily that was only a hour twenty drive home.

Lastly, we would not stay at St Mounts again and also would not recommend the Hotel, although we would recommend the Restaurant as we have eaten there in the past and it was of exceptional quality.

Room Tip: Don't ever pay full price for a room.

....even we were 16000 km away from our home, on a trip through the Blue Mountains. We were staing for a couple of nights here at the Quality Inn St. Mounts, which our friends recomendet us, and it was worth every minute. The warm atmosphere at the old cosy place was the perfect spot to relax after the whole day bush walking and exploring the mountain area. We tried other hotels and guesthouses before , but in the end St. -Mounts is the one with the most charm and best flair and it has a story to tell, because it's also one of the oldest guesthouse in NSW.The food was delicious , served as big portions to a reasonal price,,,The Steaks are the best ...ever.
The room's are very nice looking and also very comfortable with a bathroom (inkl. shower) on-suit. Continental breakfast is also includet in the room price, so it's the perfect start in the day.

There were some little "contras" like the light globe was defect in the walkway and the fire alarm went on (for no reason) .But nowbody is perfect, especialy in hospitality every body charges very high prices but in the end what counts is when you leave a place you feel like you dont want to go or to get back as soon as possible , and thats how we felt when we left St.- Mounts.
Great place and also great people (staff and owners)
Definitiv come back when i'm in the mountains.

Thanks again

The owners were very friendly, the cottage a quaint reflection on years gone by & it's a pleasant place for a retreat from Sydney. My rating would be 3.5 stars if that was possible and possibly 4 if just a few things were improved upon.
My husband & I had a two-night getaway in the Blue Mountains & despite suffering from a bit of a lurgy & it being incredibly wet, cold & foggy during our stay, we had a lovely relaxing time. Our room was very pleasant with a unique ensuite built in to the original bedroom. It was very noisy on our first night (Friday) due to the trucks passing along the highway all night which resulted in a very disturbed sleep unfortunately. And we found the bed to be very hard (I'm pretty fussy about my beds though). Jack offered to move us to the self-contained cottage at the back of the property which was well away from the main road & would have been quieter but we chose to stay in the same room & had a much better sleep the second night. The lodge was nice to hang out & read, relax & watch footy on the wet & cold Saturday. Having the open fires fired up earlier in the day would have been preferred. Breakfast was very basic & self-service with breads, condiments, cereals, cheese/meats and instant tea/coffee. I thought it would have been a nice touch to offer cooked eggs & fresh coffee, perhaps during limited breakfast hours so that it was feasible, particularly given there is a full restaurant kitchen in the building. And perhaps the daily newspaper. As it was, there didn't seem to be a time limit on when you could wander in for breakfast so that is a positive. Having the restaurant in-house was a bonus so that we could just wander downstairs in the evening & back up to bed later. The restaurant is a lovely Italian trattoria with very traditional offerings & a few interesting specials (seperate review on this).

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the main road
