“Beautiful Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 27, 2014

Beautiful, peaceful location. The rooms are open air and amazing. The staff is cry nice and the food was amazing. The only drawback was the number of bugs while we were there. Some large ants decided to make a home in the bedside table.

Hi dear Friends

Thanks for visit us and we are glad, that you like the hotel. It’s a shame hear about the bad bugs experience unfortunately we are a natural hotel and it happen to us sometimes. I hope to see you next time and I wish don’t happen again, we will see what can we do about this problem. Probably a natural repellent.

Thanks for your opinion.

I had wanted to stay in Yelapa for a number of years so treated myself to 3 nights here and paid for a "waterfront" palapa. When I arrived I was shown #1 which qualifies as "waterfront" by virtue of there only being a wide stretch of sand between it and the water. The stone building sits in a hollow and has louvered windows on only 2 sides both of which are almost totally covered by thatch. There is no outside porch and when the nice attendant opened the door into the dark, dank interior, the word that popped into my head was "dungeon". Not my idea for $120 a night. After complaining, I was shown #6 the only other thing available. This one had 4 walls of wicker construction providing little privacy at night which is not a real problem because everybody goes to bed after sunset but a maximum of air and light. Solid walls for the bathroom area and a lovely porch for a spectacular beach view made it more than acceptable. Many of the cottages have different construction (and ages) and while the furniture is dated it's serviceable and, given the wonderful remoteness of Yelapa, quite acceptable. My bed was delightfully supportive bu the mosquito netting seemed to trap more inside than not. Staff is excellent being helpful and accomodating. The hotel restaurant, like every beach front establishment is totally outside which means you sometimes have to contend with flies but the menu has some inventive items on it and the quality is very good.

Room Tip: Ask for the higher numbered cottages.

Sorry for the inconvenience with the first room we show. I will take care of this with the reservation department to be more clear about the rooms position and construction.
We are working in the rooms this year I hope you will totally love the hotel next time.

Overall I highly recommend staying in Yelapa at Lagunita. It was everything I dreamed of as a kid. I can't imagine a more romantic setting. The thatched roof palapa was built with love and very unique. The rock pool was dreamy at sunset. There were dozens of butterflies on the small paths that wind through the individual cabanas.

The staff were all wonderful. The bar and restaurant on the beach served decent food and drink, although it is more Americanized than I prefer. Lagunita is at the end of the small beach and has lounge chairs and umbrellas for guests. There are a couple kayaks available to rent for cheap from the front desk.

The water taxi from Puerto Vallarta dropped us off at the pier on the property so there was no need to hike through town with our bags or jump into the water. It took about 45 minutes by boat to get to Yelapa.

We spent most evenings going into town after dark for dinner, flashlights are a must because its either a walk through the jungle or crossing a shallow section of the river! Everyone we met was very helpful and kind, guiding us when we got lost at night.

The downside of Lagunita was the blaring music from the beach bar next door that played every night until 1am. It was unbearable to sleep, even with our earplugs. The dance club seemed like it would be a great place to meet other travelers and locals alike if you like to stay up late.

We live in Puerto Vallarta and were looking for a weekend getaway, we found the Hotel Lagunita on Cupocity and looked over the pictures and decided to to go after 10 years of not visiting Yelapa.
The hotel is located right on the beach on the north end of Yelapa. I absolutely loved it! The beach is huge with a few little huts and lounge chairs, the ocean was perfect.
My kids, 5 and 8, loved the pool! This is a great feature, but we spent most of our time on the beach. We took a walk to the waterfall, it is a bit long, about 45 minutes each way, but fun for the kids while exploring the jungle. Once you get to the waterfall you may jump in, it is not deep at all and the water is very cold...nice a refreshing after the walk.
The room is very basic but exactly what I was looking for on a beach hotel, very clean and great size, hot water, not TV's (no need for one to be honest). At night we slept with the windows open looking over the ocean and listening to the waves.
The food is great and very affordable.
Service is very good too! I
I loved the hotel and plan to go back before the end of March.
Congratulations on a job well done!

I forget how many times I've been to Hotel Lagunita...but, I'm never sorry when I go. The rustic cabanas and interiors are a perfect beachfront setting. And, the staff is always great. The hotel is not your typical hotel...don't arrive there expecting upgraded and amenities and designer rooms. You won't find it there. But, in their defense they do not pretend to be anything more than they are...a relaxing place to hang out in nature with a beautiful view of the lagoon and the bay beyond. I have only one ongoing complaint in that the showers overflow on the entire bathroom in the rooms that I've stayed in...but, it would keep me from coming back. I would think it could be a pretty simple fix if management put their mind to it.

I also recommend the connected Restaurant Tres Amigos. They excellent Mexican themed breakfasts, lunches and dinners at affordable prices right under beachfront palapas.

I almost never even leave the property when I'm there...everything I need is right there at the water's edge!

I have only two ongoing complaints in that the showers overflow on the entire bathroom in the rooms that I've stayed in and even though they just installed a new router the signal is still not strong enough. I would think this could be solved with commercial grade repeaters or a central antenna broadcasting across the property. However, I did notice a great improvement this timeBut, neither of these would keep me from coming back.

Room Tip: My favorite cabanas are two of the oceanfront ones - #5 & #6. Number 6 has a small little terrac...

Just returned from another great stay here. Lucas at the front desk told us that it is cheaper and quicker to take the water taxi to boca de tomatlan if you have transportation back to pv or onward. He helped us rent a car from budget that was delivered to us at boca saving a long trip to airport to pick up and shaving an hour off our transit time south to barra de navidad.

We stayed three nights at Hotel Lagunita. It was exactly what we were looking for - clean, simple, with a great view of the ocean and convenient to the beach. It takes a bit of work to get into town either by taking the trails along the river or by wading the river.

I created the following interactive map based on memory of local landmarks that I saw. Hopefully it is helpful for future first time visitors. It does not include every restaurant, place to stay, or landmark in Yelapa - just what I can remember and what I saw. It shows the location of Hotel Lagunita in relation to the town: http://www.mappermaps.com/yelapa/interactive_map
