“Authentic Old World Mexico”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2012

Walking through the cobbled streets, we met up with moms and kids on donkeys en route to school. Ranchers on mules with a donkey in tow, loaded up with firewood, bags of fruit, luggage, followed by 2 or three dogs. Family style taco stands, small stores selling drinks, snacks, etc. were prevalent during the first hour of the walk, then gorgeous, lush jungle along the Tuito River. Waterfall was beautiful, the journey was the best.

“Town Waterfall”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2012

The town waterfall is a pretty easy hike compared to the "up river cascades". It is shady and cool. A good get away from the hot sun in the afternoons.

“Misty Moment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2012

Our falls are an easy hike for all, well worth the 10 minute walk from the pier. On a hot afternoon, the scene provides the much needed visual, auditory, and sensory relief. Enjoy

“Waterfall Outside of Town Worth It”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2012

We hiked to the waterfall outside town, it took about 1 hour 15 mins each way. It would be good to ask directions from someone or a map as it can get a little confusing at times. Take the stone path that runs adjacent to the river (path is behind the restaurants that line the river) and wear sturdy shoes. Most of the walk I'm sure would be doable in flip-flops or sandals except the last 15 mins or so which requires navigating some large rocks along the riverbank. You cross the river twice on foot. Shortly after the second crossing, you will walk up some gullies. Keep an eye out on your left for a closed locked wooden gate. You have to crawl through this gate and continue on the path that leads beyond it, which will curve to the right. When we went the gate was not well marked so look out. There was a faint green spray painted arrow on it and the words la cascada carved faintly into the wood.
The waterfall itself is not that impressive, if you've been to the Rockies for instace, but we really enjoyed the walk there (not too difficult) and taking a dip in waterfall pool and having a picnic on the rocks. Make sure to bring water!

“Beautiful, calm, away from the tourist crowd”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2011

There are TWO waterfalls in Yelapa and this review is for the waterfall outside of town. Walk through the countryside while enjoying the local experience! Houses, ponies, dogs, and cows will greet you on the way out. Stop by Christina's for an excellent vegetarian lunch (few restaurants in Yelapa cater to the veggie crowd!) on your way back, after wading through the warm river water and enjoying the peaceful natural setting.
